Great day Chris, it really was, thanks for the excellent hospitality and putting the heaters on brrrr. Projecting the power readings onto the wall was a nice touch too

You said my car was mental..........this from someone who owns a super charged, turboed car and then he sticks Nos on it too - no your car is mental Chris

Hi Chaps, Mark with the GTO here!
Good to meet you all yesterday and see some of your motors on the dyno, also good to see Kev (jade green R32) an ex GTO member with his new friends.

If anyone is interested in doing a GTO Vs Skyline dyno day any time let me know as it would for us GTO boys to mix with some other clubs! (something that I think we don't do anywhere near enough!)

Take care
Mark

Nice idea Mark!

Though if your car is running at it's best on the day, no prizes for guessing whole have the most powerful figure!

I'd be up for it in a couple of months no probs.

Hi guys. Was good to meet some of you, and a good turn out really. Some very nice cars turned up. Thanks to YODI and PE for organising and hosting the events.

I did manage to run my car, but was not happy with the figures I got. Need some serious inventigation in to the figures I recieved both at PE and RE:wrox who did the map. It should be noted that PE dyno measures in BHP, where as some other dyno's measure in HP. Looking at my graph from RE:Worx, their DynoDynamics RR shows HP.

So, while both graphs should the same torque reading, RE:Worx gave a HP figure of 320ATW (~380HP flywheel) the PE RR gave a reading of something like 280BHP at the flywheel. Barely above standard.

Now I have a decision to make. PE reckon it was running very rich. It idles at around 11.7-12.0 AFR which is about stock for an FD. Up high, who knows, I didn't see the figures. Who word do I take. PE, been tuning for a long time and have a good rep as far as I'm aware, or a rotary specialist.

All I know is, the car is a fair bit faster than it was stock and it puts a smile on my face. Will see what times I put down at Santa Pod this year, compared to when it was standard. That will tell me whats what

I guess perhaps YODI knows, or you'll just have to wait for J-Tuner to publish them

Hi Lenny,
I would say that those AFR's on idle are way to rich and could even be fouling the plugs.
With those sort of AFR's it would never pass an MOT either.

As for the AFR's at the top end, it was past 10 and this just isn't good for power but it will be safe!

I find that big fat AFR's are often due to lazy or bad tuning. It is easy to get a car run smooth with a fat AFR but it will never make the numbers, getting the AFR right is art.

Your car should be 14.7:1 (lamda 1) on idle, regardless of injectors (within reason) if the tuner knows his stuff. (if it can't be tuned to lamda 1 then they ae the wrong injectors!)
My car is running 42% idc at full chat but still has an lamda 1 cruise and tick over. In escense, my injectors are too big for the T35's but not for my new GT55!

To give you an example of bad tuners, a friend of mine took his supra to a well know tuner as it was missing. The tuner richened the mixture to smooth it out, it idle'd fine, it cruised fine but was guttless to drive.

I checked it over and it was an airleak and a dodgey 02 wire, fixed them and the car was so rich it wouldn't even start, idle or cruise.
Reloaded his old MAP and it was perfect. The garage charged him 4 hours at £95/hr + VAT...

To me, an engine is an engine, it's all down to the right air, fuel and spark.
If a place can MAP/tune one car, they can tune them all...

Personaly I don't trust anyone else to MAP my car apart from Me and Chris and PE. He knows is stuff!

Mark
