R32 GTR IMPORT to USA

YEP... i'm importing one from japan and every thing is looking great so far.. the car is now 21 years old (1990), so it doesn't need to meet the epa standards. i've kept in contact with the importer and everything has gone well. was told the car would be state side march 8th, so the countdown begins... i've also talked to the dmv here and the inspectors office and shouldn't have a problem there either.. so im just wait on the paper work from japan and a delivery date ( to my door )... wish me luck

Hi

doesnt the car need to be 25 years old to be legally registered?

We export alot of parts to and from the USA so drop us a line if you need any parts.

Good luck with your car.

Correct... It is 25 years, not 21 years... Good luck getting your car flagged for seizure before it even lands... Make sure to have a little extra $$$ for either exportation off the North American continent or for the car to be crushed on your expense... Buy one already here in the states, it's the only way to do it...

well according to the reg office here, they told me that there wouldnt be an issue with registration. and as far as the 21 years goes, according to the epa it doesn't need to meet there reg's so the state inspection wont require it. emissions not req'd...

Yea you don't have to meet emissions but you have to meet DOT and safety regulations such as side impact bars, seat belt mounts, windshield, vin on the dash and so on.......oh wait thats only legal to do on an R33 manufactured from 01/96-06/98 and the r32 isn't even on the eligible vehicle importation list but hey good luck with CUSTOMS and I hope you don't get your car crushed.....and welcome...i think?

Yes, I want to hear what happened b/c the 21 years is only for EPA... the NHTSA and Federal DOT are in charge of the crash test standards which require the car to be 25+ years old. it does not matter what your state says about emissions or registration. US Federal Customs are the decider on if the car even makes it to your state. Unless your importer is running some gray market shady business I would say get prepared to have your heart broken. Federal laws trump State laws all day every day.
