this is now a pain

o.k. started as a misfire at 4500rpm so read every thread result. step 1 new plugs gapped at 8 step 2 cleaned all the coils wrapped them in jaguar insul. tape. [very thick]. step 3 reset ecu. result will rev right to the red when in park, soon as i put it in drive wont go past 4500rpm no misfire just nothing. just like a rev limiter as been set at 4500rpm when in gear. would like a bit of help on this if anybody knows. dave pissed off 4 kids 5 grandkids and to top it all 50 on friday

if it was AFM it shouldnt rev properly in park, or at least not if the AFM has failed. it would normally rev rough as hell above 2.5k rpm if it was dead.....

Although it may be on its way out rather then totally dead i guess......

no no.. faulty afm's could also cause a misfire at high rpm, they could cause you to run lean.

are they still the standard nissan coils?

i had the same with my car, did all the wrappin etc...no joy, got onto www.nengun.com and bought the uprated splitfire coils and the problems only a bad memory now

ive read in a couple of places that the standard coils arent good enough, the struggle to maintain the higher voltage when the car is pushed and begin to break down...everywhere, includin myself, recommends the splitfire's

gotta say that i agree with daz.. i've got splitfires in mine and not one miss since i got em...

that said, i do sometimes wonder if they might mask a problem rather then sorting it...
