Buying Parts From Japan....

Advice from those in the know!

I am about to order a PFC-Pro and Injectors (maybe steel Head Gasket) from Greenline in Japan...

They have emailed me a quote for the parts and shipping....

How much should I expect to pay for Import Duty, Customs (I know the VAT bit!!!)
Any other hidden costs?

Are these charges always imposed or is there a chance I could get lucky

Cheers

Hi Trevor,

Some companies package them as gifts to avoid these charges. I'd have a look on ebay, as there are companies that sell these items new.

You could get lucky, but they do seem to be more and more aware. What you pay, depends on the value of the items, which is declared on the documentation (although this can be "adjusted" ) Hidden costs, if it comes via Parcel Farce are their "handling fee" which was about £12

From my experience with greenline, you won't pay any duty

But as a general rule, if you get stung, Nitey is right there, bout 10%

Of course, any parts that I get from Japan are marked "warranty replacement part" so I paid duty on the first time I purchased it.

I have never been hit buying from Greenline - best of the lot with the "gift" thing.

If you do get nailed, it is about 10% + the admin charge which is normally £15 ish.

have a word with nengun..

http://www.nengun.com/

tell him funkymonkey from SAU forums sent ya. He looks after a lot of the boys down in aus. Including changing the prices marked on the tiems and declaring them as gifts. We're lucky in aus items that are "atuomatic electronic controllers" or something are tax exempt (to do with manufacturers importing spare parts). UK might be the same to, go thru your customs legislations etc to find loopholes. nengun should know em already.
