exhaust silencer

hI all i have a sort of pull cord thing in the passengers footwell of my r33 spec 2connected to what looks like a bike brake cable and im told it was to make the exhaust quieter whne i wanted it to be. but i cant find any info on one i see a video on youtube of one being used but cant find it again. (typical) my one has been disconnected and i dont know if i have all i need to reconnect it again. any help would be appreciated!!

Can I ask if it's loose in the cabin or on some sort of bracket. got a pic? I've got one I might fit in the future - when I work out where's best to run the cable and mount it.
