Cars that just didn't cut it...

Thought I would end a reflective evening comprising errands, some herbs, some posting interspersed with some nagging etc., with a thought about car's that just didn't measure up to your expectations.

I think mine wasn't a car I owned but a mate's F355 Spider (red o.c.). Beautiful car and fast as feck. I remember squirting up MCR Princess Parkway onto the M52 and through the Airport tunnel; just like Monaco

. But on the way, sitting or driving in traffic on the M52 I have never felt such a complete nob. Like in a goldfish bowl. It secretly amused me when he was driving thru Moss Side and some random bloke ran over, kicked his door in and ran off! Preferred my Esprit, more honest

!

He did redeem himself as he's now got a DB7 Vantage. Much more apropriate!

Driving my Mum's C-Reg Nissan Micra when I went to University. Hmmm. Not a babe magnet.

990 cc engine though - nippy as hell.

Overall, very reliable, roomy and the ride was rather bouncy. My Mum, that is.

My boss went from a 355 to a DB7 Vantage - said he preferred the Ferrari. Probably because he took it out more and had more fun in it.

Sold the Aston now, and bought himself an M3.

But anyway, so I don't hijack your thread, a car that really disppointed was the Audi TT. Got to drive a left-hand drive one soon after they came out. Not fun at all.

I can commiserate well, mine was an E-reg Ford Fiesta 1.1 L. I even took it round the Nurburgring packed with luggage while the girlfriend took pictures. Sad really.

Sorry - to be serious for a minute - the only "decent" car that really disappointed me was, as above, an Audi TT.

Cornered pretty nicely, but other than that it was utterly dull and nowhere near as fast as I expected.

990cc - big engine. When I moved over to Japan, I got myself a Kei-Car.

550cc Daihatsu Mira. As it was a Kei-car, the tax was next to nothing, as was the insurance. Ran for about 30,000 miles on a tank. Loads of fun, used to race everything in it.

Only downside was the heating/aircon (or lack of it). Freezing in the winter, sweltering in the summer. Had to upgrade. To a Toyota Corolla....in which I drove from Tokyo to Hiroshima and back.

(But I did drive my first Skyline in Japan. A modded R32 GTR. Very nice.)
