depends on what the intercooler is rated too,how its mounted?how its made, whats the flow characteristics?
installation is as easy as you make it buy the correct intercooler with correct fitting kit and its easy but try to fit an intercooler from some obscure car with no fitting kit then its the hardest thing ever

There are different types of fin designs which affect cooling. Long story short, don't buy a knock off off of ebay. Go for something quality like Greddy or HKS or ARC if you can find them. A good intercooler is going to cost a lot, but will be well worth the money.

The cheap ebay ones will be fine for stage 1 and maybe a little more but I would also personally run a brand name one for more power and better flow.

Also the thickness is a factor to consider. Bigger can = more lag

Keep in mind intercoolers get beat up over the years by rocks and such, but yes the GTR intercoolers were made by Calsonic. The ebay intercoolers often have fitment issues and aren't better than stock if at all.
