Car's a Write Off

had an accident last week with a crash barrier in the skyline just had the insurance assessor round and he has said write off

spoke with my broker for Allianz in germany and he said it will take 3 to 4 weeks to sort out he said i will get a copy of the assessor's report and then he said i will get a list of scrap dealers and i must sell the car within 14 days to one of them.

This is new to me so can any of the german guys shed any light on this

You don't have an option to buy the totaled car to part it out?

When I crashed my 350GT my insurance company took bids on the car from salvage brokers and then subtracted the highest bid amount from the total worth of the car. They then provided me with the contact info of the salvage guy, cut me a check for the cars value minus the salvage bid and told me I could either sell it or not sell it but it couldnt be fixed and reinsured by them.

I was insured under usaa so its a bit different. They gave me slightly above KBB value and had no restrictions to me taking parts off so long as I could reinstall the oem parts in thier place. The process took about 4 business days from me sending in all my paperwork (accident report, damage invoices for the guard rails etc) to me being sent all the electronic versions of the paperwork and given the name and number of the salvage agency who won the bid. The cash was in my bank account after about 8 business days.

KBB on a skyline? Where and how? I have a USAA guy coming to look at my car on monday. I'm not sure how they get their value on a skyline but unless theres a hidden "skyline" button on the website, theres no way they use KBB...
