Labour cost section...

what about a section of the forum where people can list items they have had fitted to their cars, whether replacement standard parts, or mods, and give details of how much it cost them, as a guide for anyone wanting to get the same thing done, and also, quote how long it took in hours, so that people can work out costs if the price per hour of labour is different in a garage near them?

good idea/bad idea??

I think that would be pretty good. I'm getting a heap of work done soon, the only thing stopping me doing it sooner is worrying about how much the Labour is going to cost!

Not too bad an idea but the labour costs aren't fixed for 'x' job. This won't take into any complications like what I had with the manifold on my recent escapade.

i don't know if it's the same in the UK but over here in the channel islands labour charges range between £25 to £160 per hour (and still i would'nt trust them with my wheel barrow )
so how accurate would it be

It wouldn't be a definitive price catalogue but if the person described EXACTLY what was done, any problems encountered, how long it took and the final cost in Labour then people would have a fairly good idea how much they can expect to pay in a similiar situation.

Also, if we started posting up how much labour was charged by a certain garage in a certain area and how good a job was done, we'd have a good idea where to get the car tuned.

Think about all the bad press we've given the Keighley garage. On the website, the cars look mint - I'd certainly be tempted if I hadn't heard how bad they were from EVERYBODY I've spoken to about them! The same goes for Wallace Performance in Aberdeen, who managed to stick Subaru fuel and oil filters into a couple of Skyline's. It would put you off using them wouldn't it!

it would work ok if we could describe time and costs for getting the work done, assuming no problems.

i guess it wouldnt be accurate, but i would never go back to someone who said "i paid £XX for XXX fitting" and say "that cost me 3 times as much", as it wouldnt be their fault.

could be used just to indicate a price range, some people will get work done cheaper than others, based on the garage they go to, but everyone who sees costs, when a lot of people have had the same thing fitted, can get an average price...

about the garages, there's a trade rating thingy in each of our posting profile sections, that shows feedback. could something like that be done, say, a list of garages, comments made, and percentage rating based on how impressed/unimpressed you were of the work??
