The first problem is that sometimes when i turn the key to start it, theres a horrible sound which sounds like the starter motor is not fully engaged i.e like when you grind your gears, but more high pitched. It just does it randomly.

The second prob was when i was accelerating quite hard, it was in 3rd(its an auto) it wouldnt go into 4th, let off accelerator, put foot down again a bit lighter and it wouldnt change, just hit rev limiter. Didnt have O/D off or have it in hold.

Car isnt that far from standard, prob 20HP more. Oh, and the wheels had traction when it wasnt changing up

you sure you werent in 4th already? i take it that kickdown is working fine?
only other things id suggest is it might be a sensor gone down like road speed sensor or rpm sensor. have a look at the gearbox oil levels hot n cold, should be a dark red color, could be the vanes inside the gearbox blocked or something.

I was definatley in 3rd, but it seems to be alright now. i will have a look at oil levels etc. Thanks
