Sick as hell.

I took my Skyline off the road a couple of years ago because it was too expensive to run as a daily anymore. Before that it was my daily for 4 years, that's by far the longest I've had any car, now I've had it more like 6 years.

I decided since it wasn't worth anything anymore to get some fun out of it on the track drifting, saved my pennies up and bought a Land Rover Discovery, so I could tow the Skyline there and back. A few months later the Disco dies on me. Apparently the previous owner had left it standing for a while and anti-freeze had eaten through the extremely gay alloy head. Boom, lost all that money, sold it for a pittance to a mate.

Months later I managed to save a few pennies again and bought an old Fourtrak to replace the disco. This thing seemed to have been restored well, but as it happened the bloke had replaced all the hoses on the engine with generic rubber hose. Oil ate through one of these hoses and dumped all of it's oil on the road, I only knew what was happening when I could hear the engine knocking like a b*stard and instantly pulled over.

Fast forward to now, I've finally managed to source a part to replace the hose, which was suitable for oil. I fitted it on Saturday, charged the battery, refilled it with oil and turned the ignition. First turn it fired up and I was all smiles. There was some blue smoke coming out of the exhaust initially but that soon burned off.

Took it for a gentle test drive to the closest town and as I was pulling up to some lights, it just cut out.

The AA came to the rescue, spent a good hour looking at it and long story short, something pretty major has broken or bent inside the engine. It'll very slowly turn over off the key, as if something inside isn't where it should be.

So at the end of a year I was supposed to have spent drifting, instead I've spent all my money on 2 tow cars that have gone tits up.

Sick as hell and ready to break the Skyline and weigh in the Fourtrak to pay off the credit card that has been accumulating because of all this :(

syko if you think its the best option then do it pal debt is a cancer and it loves to get you further and further in, just take the engine out AGAIN and shut the garage on the skyline until your ready to start again if there is a problem then sort it out b4 it gets worse. these cars are money skips pal ive realised but at the end ov the day there just pieces of metal thats what ive come to realise pal..

when i sold my last skyline i shud have never bought another i shud have gone with my instinct and bought an audi a4 s-line tdi...

Cheers for the comments peeps :)

Chin up Joel, these things are sent to try us :)
Same words I used when I told my dad. He worries.

You're not having a good run :(
You need one of these in your life!

A mate had a later model one... he even made it fly (a good few meters over the edge of a boat ramp)... they're almost impossible to kill :D
Impossible to kill - that's what they said about the Fourtrak. I took it as a challenge. I won!

I want to save up a little more and get another tow car but I'm gonna have to spend more to get a newer more reliable vehicle, which means I'm not gonna see the fun side of a racetrack until the middle of next year at least.

Just when you think you're nearly there they stick the knife in and twist it :(

If you want an actual indestructible tow car, pick yourself up a petrol cherokee. Thirsty but made of serious stuff, I had a leaky rad hose that I never knew about and managed to drive from London to South Wales with about an eggcup full of water in the rad before I noticed!

+1 for a petrol cherokee. The 1 i had had been played with and went like fook, although it did average 14mpg as a result. Bloody strong motors though.

For a tow car get an old hilux import auto or hilux pick up, basically anything Jap!! I've found this out to my cost aswell for a daily drive:(. Maybe an LPG converted big engine car like a range rover V8?

Maybe build the skyline to be road legal so you can drive to drift events and then maybe home again? A short term fix possibly?

I bought a series 2 disco earlyer this yr as my other daily drive- pug 206D the engine cracked and started to leak coolant everywhere. Seems previous owners never changed coolant until i had it done :(.

There's bits wearing out and breaking on this Disco quicker than any car i've owned i reckon!! Most recently the XYZ selector on the auto box-£230 for part from a breakers....without this the car goes into limp mode-3rd gear only reduced engine power and only D, P, R and N work on the box!!

When it's working it's spot on apart from leaky sunroof syndrome when it rains heavy-another common problem which i've 95% fixed lol. If you buy another disco get a 300tdi basically..

I've toyed with putting the Skyline back on the road but a) it looks like this:

b) it's farking ridiculous insurance, I've basically bought 2 4x4's this year for what it would cost me to insure the Skyline and c) 9 times out of 10 when I've been to the track, the Skyline isn't driveable enough to get home under it's own power!!! :D

Actually while I was looking for the above photo I came across one I took in the summer which has given me a great idea :)

Found this place just after I'd bought the Fourtrak and was out trucking round the countryside. This garage is just down the road from me, every Landy in there was £2999 apart from one which was kitted out to the eyeballs, up for about £10k.

Has to be worth a drive over there, see what they've got now I think, maybe's see if I can get an interest free loan from the bank of mum and dad!

Just been on the phone to my dad for half an hour talking through some ideas. He's as gutted as me about the Foutrak, we both loved that thing.

But he agrees that an ex army Landy sounds like a good way forward. He's also got a mate with a petrol Cherokee for sale, which also has an LPG conversion. Looks like ****, paints all peeling off and it needs a bit of welding on one sil but it goes like a train apparently. Cheap but needs a tow bar too.

I'm gonna look into the Landy's first. More money but I've been screwed over twice this year trying to do it on the cheap! Just need a small lottery win and I'll be in business :D
