I bought an ACT heavy duty paddle clutch (Rated for 512 lb/ft of torque) from Apex Performance a few months ago, and when i first had it fitted it was a proper animal of a clutch!
It would bite like an aligator as soon as i lifted my foot off the clutch peddle, and you could hear the puks gripping inside it too!

Its not even done a 1000 miles yet and its just lost all its agressivenes altogether!
Its making a horrible grinding noise when the clutch peddle is out and its in neutral, the biting point is now just over half way up the peddle now and it bites like a standard clutch, but with a stiff peddle!

When i set off in first gear it makes a screeching noise like a car skidding, and it also makes a funny loud grinding noise that i can feel through the peddle and gear stick!

I dont know if any of you guys have had any experiance with ACT clutches in the past, or just any similar problems with any clutch, but any help would be very much appreciated! :cheers: :bigthumb:

im no clutch specialist but sounds like its on its way out dont think you should be feeling anything through the steering something wrong mate get it checked out

Idefinately get it checked, the noise when the car is in neutral is the release bearing.

Obviously clutches will bed in but get it checked.

i have had the same clutch in as you festa for around 3 months and 2000 miles and its fresh as the day it was in, maybe its something other than the clutch, does it slip at all??

I Was Told That When The Clutch Pedle Is Out Its Normal To Hear A Noise ???

I Wouldnt Describe Mine As A Griding But Probly Simular Sound And Could Be Claased As A Grinding, Never Had Any Slipping In Mine, Not That Any Of This Info Will Help As My Clutch Is Still Standard

Mmm - did you replace the release bearing when you fitted the clutch?

Yeah the kit came with a new release bearing mate, and im hoping that the mechanic did actually fit it!
He said he did but who knows?

I wouldnt say it slips, but it does sound like something is slipping when i set off, it even makes the screeching noise when im gearing down at speed!

The clutches do come with a 10,000 mile or 1 year warranty against manufacturing defects.

I'm not the most technically minded person at Apex but if you want to give us a call on Monday and speak to one of the other guys about the problems and we'll see what they can do to help.

We've never had any issues with the ACT clutches and have sold a fair few now, but if there is a fault with the clutch then it will be replaced under warranty.

my clutch bearing did this after the knockhill track day, sounds like a grinding noise when you press the clutch ( this is on a standard clutch ) it could just be that plus air trapped in the clutch line. speak to the garage who fitted it as well mate.

Yeah thats why i bought one of the ACT clutches because of all the good reviews and happy customers,
And like i said it was one of the best things i had bought for my car,
and then it just went pear shaped on me!

And ive spoken to the guy who fitted the clutch and he assures me that he did fit the release bearing that came with the clutch.

Im gonna see what Apex Performance say on monday first mate,
Cos i dont wanna mess about with it anymore cos its doin mi head in!

And if the clutch is actually knackered then i dont wanna waste anymore time on it. (and i dont know how to do it anyway lol.)
