So its getting closer to that time I will be importing an R34 GTT to Dublin, a few questions for those in the know;

When it arrives at port and I have paid all the duty and tax owed, I need to get it to an NTC test center in order to VRT it and get a reg number, do I need to get it towed to the NCT center? how do I get it there with no number plate?

and the other question is, do I have to get it re mapped to accept Irish fuel or is it a case of just fill her up and reset the ECU so it automatically adjusts to the new lower octane fuel?

Thanks.

not sure about the legal questions, I know a bit of the process for the north but not down south.

but, fuel question will depend on the car if its modified and mapped then likely I would have someone remap it. for local fuel. if its standard, I would have it checked, it may be ok, plenty of imports are running about on standard brains. but get it checked, it may be a matter of adjusting the timing at the CAS.

I never got my car nct'd.
Trailered it to the tax office, someonce came out and only checked the vin plate in the engine bay matched the tax form id filled in and i gave them the cash.
Job done, was given papers with my new number plate on it.
Didnt Nct it for 2 years after that, and still hasnt been taxed, as its very rarly on the road. Havin driven 10,000 klms since imported in 2008

You need to take cars to the NTCS center now in order to pay VRT, don't know when it changed. PDtuning did you remap to irish 98/95 or are you running high octane for the track?

hi mate i had a gtt er34 it had an induction kit fmic and back box it was not mapped and it ran very well ,it flamed sometimes out of the exhaust i was told it was the ecu compensating for the modifications by running a little rich ,,,but when the boost was upped and it was mapped it was a very quick car ,,,,if i was you i would trailer it all you need is a hard ass police man impounding it for not displaying tax at the very least ,its worth
being cautious after all they're lovely cars

pick it up and drive it there, make sure you ring and book it in to be vrt'd though, otherwise they wont see you. then drive to get yourself some plates done up.

mapping youll be fine so long as your not taking it racing. if your worried grab some octane booster from the garage and dump it in too, although it doesnt do a whole lot IMO.

Thanks lads, you have all been a great help. Might use Titan Autoworks in Japan for the importing, its run by an Irish guy living over there.

i just used irish 95 octane and kept an eye on my knock level on my power FC. Anythink over 45 knock is doing damage.
if you dont have a pfc, then i would get it mapped but only if its running big power
