Looking for car insurance at 17 is a f**king joke, spend all of wednesday ringing up so called "young drivers insurance" companies to insure my 1.0 litre VW Polo, and was getting quotes between £5,000-£10,000. I have spoke to Dan but unfortunately he could not help me with issues regarding my postcode, so now I am getting completely p*ssed off because the cheapest I can find is £3500.

Tempted to drive with no insurance because it is getting beyond a joke now.

3500£ is a cheap quote for someone your age on any car mate...

Other option put car in parents name and go on there policy as named driver use the co-op and when you can get a cheaper quote and they change your named drivers ncb into normal ncb that's what I did when I passed my test now 23 with a 34 Gtt and my insurance is 1700£

I've tried them, they only do online quotes and the cheapest I could get was £4,800 with my mum as a named driver. i've also read that theyre the worst insurance company in britain when it comes to customer service so I dont think i'll be going with them.

I dont know what else to do, and it's really frustrating

It's expensive because you are high risk and without experience, and yes, this is worsened by young and inexperienced drivers crashing, and there is no way that they can tell how you are going to be the exception to that rule other than paying up, and getting no claims bonus.

So if you want to drive at such a young age, cough up the money, if you don't have the money, make it or wait ... you are by no means "entitled" to drive cheaply just because you exist, prove your worth, make some money, and build your ncb up, simple as that really :)

on a more helpful note, try looking at retro/classic cars such as merc 190s , bmw e30s etc, you'l be surprised how cheap they can be, and you get a lot more car for your money + cheaper insurance, cheaper parts etc etc.

also shop around for insurance, if people are giving you super high quotes, they are basically saying they don't want your custom, and if they are going to take it, they will get as much money out of you as possible for taking the risk.

either way, welcome to getting ripped off every year and everytime you fill up :D

I found Kwik Fit was the cheapest when I passed my test, but that was over 5 years ago.

Oh and don't drive around uninsured, you just f**k someone else's life up when you hit them plus you run a higher risk of having your skull kicked in should you hit the wrong person when you tell them you have no insurance.

I have money, I work full time and work hard for it, I have about 3 grand in savings all earned by me, but i'm getting ridiculous quotes. I have tried nearly all of these insurance companies that fit black boxes to your car and they've all quoted me in the region of 5k+

it is a crock of sh*t how they think they can charge so much, typical britain for you, people just bend over and take it.

Try limiting your mileage, having a big excess and just get basic cover ie dont worry about courtesy car etc on the policy.
