Well i might as well kick one off now as there is an amount of work i want and need to do on the new toy
Picked it up yesterday was a good ride out and a steady ride back with my mates 400bhp S4 chomping on my bumper all the way :D
Anyway when i got home i noticed a tiny oil leak well ok it was pouring out it managed to drop 1L in 40 steady miles so i dug out my drip pan and parked it for the night, this morning very little oil in the pan so that helped to narrow it down quite quickly to the turbo oil return and cam cover, today i spent most of the day sorting out the oil drain fingers crossed that is good now just a set of cam cover gaskets required now

Drive is a little full atm :dogpile:

Pretty sure it wasn't leaking when it left here though. There's no oil on the floor outside my house....I blame you :dogpile:

It's probably burnt more oil than it's leaked :rofl:

yes thats the one :)
the leak was quite bad when i found it so i dont think it would have made it all the way home if it was doing the whole jurney, its found and hopefully sorted now
regarding burning oil its not too bad, even when booting it but i noticed it does it worst immediately after over-run so that could be ring but just as likely valve stem seals or even turbo

also Tim any chance you can run the remote start thing past me again? :D

The turbo has been changed so it's not that. My money is on oil scraper rings but I never had chance to check.
Out of interest...Where exactly was the leak?

Remote start.....
With the engine running press the Clifford button (bottom one with a funny symbol) twice and then the ** button once...Now remove the key and the engine should keep running. It will stay on for 30 minutes if you really want it to, but whenever you want to turn it off press the top "Arm/Disarm" button. That will turn the engine off and set the alarm. It should lock the doors as well but like I said, the remote central locking isn't working. It's just 1 grub screw holding the mechanism that needs tightening for it to work, but I used to lock the doors with the key anyway.

Now that you've set the car for remote start, press the * button to start the engine and then when you want to get in the car, press "Arm/Disarm" to turn the alarm off. When you're in the car, put the key in the ignition and turn it to position 2...The position the key would normally be in if you were driving :bigthumb:

Just a note...If you disarm the alarm without starting the engine then you won't be able to just arm the alarm again and use the remote start. It's a safety thing to make sure you don't get in the car, put it in gear and then start the engine with the remote.

It's easy really! :D

ahh so you have to do the remote shutdown thing first? ill give it a try tomorrow,
the oil leak was on the turbo to oil drain flange and the oil drain silicone tube to block
i just pulled it off good clean and refitted with a new gasket and a slither of loctite gasket sealant

i do hope its not the oil control rings but if it is, it will be a full bottom end rebuild while im at it, would be silly to waste the opportunity :D

Yeah you have to do the shut down. It will become second nature eventually to press those buttons before you take the key out. And the remote has a CRAZY range on it...You can start the car a long time before you can see it. Great for freaking people out!

The turbo was changed a couple weeks ago by one of the guys I work with cos I had some stuff to sort out so I didn't have time to do it myself :(
Proof that if you want a job doing properly....Do it yourself!

yep, its sorted out now anyway, was a pig of a job though, i couldnt get the car high enough to get my arm around the exhaust, i found it hard to find suitable axle stand points aswell

That's a common problem with teenage Nissans. The chassis rails turn to cheese. I find a block of wood often helps. :)

sooo today it got its first wash, and then i spent 4 hours cleaning the boot seal area its infinitely cleaner but still not good enough its dirty dirty :spank:


and the weapon of choice meths, straight from the minis WI tank:dogpile:

been doing a large amount of testing on the engine, altered the breathers, blocked the breathers and plumbed in a pressure gauge, compression tests, removed the turbo
so far the only thing i can say for sure is its developing a misfire as the boost builds up and smoking alot on overrun and a hefty amount of blow-by, i was planning buying a short block and a steady rebuild with forged pistons but i had a scary moment t'other day where i had to limp it home in a cloud of smoke, no idea why but its not doing it anymore

anyway i found on here a member selling a complete engine less manifolds, i pm'ed him and picked it up today 377 mile round trip and officially driven through the deepest flooded road of my life but its all part of the fun :D
its come out a running car due to a forged engine replacing it and ill take his word on it beeing a good engine
im going to clean it/paint it and drop it in over christmas

dunno why the pic is upside-down :(

the mini really does look like a tonka toy next to the skyline. but the mini sounds mental. look forward to seeing what you can do with the skyline.

not quite the update i wanted to put but the skyline is now dead i suspected for a while but this morning when moving it to wash it, i could hear bubbles and the coolant system was pressurised.
about 8pm i took it for a gentle stroll into town, about 5 miles in the heater went cold so i turned around and came home, swiftly followd by a mysterious fog :rofl: (again... had this last week too)
anyway onwards and upwards, it is safely off the road and tomorrow i will start pulling everything off the engine ready to lift it out,

not much i can do untill i have gaskets to build up the new engine so i started to strip the old one whilst its in the car give me time to clean/ paint where needed,
couldnt believe how many pipes are bolted to the underside of the inlet manifold :eek: had to call it a night around 6pm when the fog was getting in the way :dogpile:

engine out, everything swapped over and engine back in, in 5 hours..:dogpile:
it fired straight up first turn of the key,
cant wait to get it back on the road but i wanted to get everything underneath sorted before taking it off my 'ramps'
the brick ramps had to do because the front bumper meant i cant even jack it up and lower it onto my steel ramps
i need a different front bumper :dogpile:
