Grrr...
Seeing as im unable to solve my current over heating problems despite hosing out the whole system and removing the thermostat etc ive decided on a bit of a career change as I have to have a slow run down to Abbey and let Dr Mark take the piss out of it again.

What this means to you:

If your peckish and anywhere on the route from Abingdon to Oxted over the next few days you have the ideal opportunity to come sample some of my culinery fast food delights cooked sur la skyline

Where will i be:

Probably in every layby on route trying to drum up a bit of trade to pay for enough glass cleaner to de-slobber the Oxted toyshop windows again

Watch out for the layby at the top of the hill above Old Oxted with the public bogs, I witnessed some very dodgy going's on there a few months back, it made me change my mind about needing a pee.

Buster,
Now we klnow what you do with your saturday nights... out cottaging (or is it called going for a pee these days) in Oxted :D

I've been reading the workshop manual about waterpumps... How they hell do you test one though? when i rev it the water level in the rad drops so i assume its doing something or other

on a more interesting note ive been talking to a specialist company about supercharging though. The downside is im going to need a mortgage to guinea pig it for them

Dunno about a cottage, rather fancy a bungalow myself.
Supercharger is a nice thought, link it up with turbo and say goodbye to lag. You do it and tell me how you get on then I will have one
Suppose you could test the pump by taking a hose of and starting the engine, just wear your swimmers.
Wrong ign timing can cause overheating

3 bolts is about my limit when weidling a spanner, any more than that and i'll not be confortable :D I think i'll drop the bottom hose off the rad and see how much faster the water comes out when i rev it (assuming its fed from the top)

All i know is it isnt the thermostat as its now resident in the glovebox. If it is the pump then im stuffed as i just read up on how to change it and I really dont think i fancy the whole timing belt thing

Take

the cap off the Radiator and hope its full.
Then, start the car and let it idle til it gets warm (but not to operating temperature).

Then, give it a bit of throttle from under the bonnet whilst peeking into the radiator (from a normal height, don't stick your eye over it).

You should see water flow from the side across the top (it comes in from the top left on an R32 anyway I think). I think that means the water pump is doing something. Definitely means its circulating anyhoo.

However, I could be talking crap. But, its a free test.

Try draining the rad and flushing it (needs a hose - Very technical!).

When i do that it spits water out through the cap hole... i can hose through the rad though so who knows, im starting to think the rad may be partially blocked, ill get there in the end one way or another (the other being Abbey next week)

Over heating

If you are losing water and there's no visible sign of it, then
it will be the head gasket-- expensive!
