I previously had a problem with the diff. I stripped all the teeth off the pinion and the crownwheel was wrecked.

I put a new crownwheel and pinion in, sealed it up and fitted it. Since then I have had a weird clonking noise when turning (it is a really tight diff - it skips at slow speed, but is clonking at medium speeds when turning left or right.)

I took it back out and got a gearbox and diff specialist to have a look - he took the nismo unit apart and it was in perfect order.

So.... Has anybody experienced this? Any ideas what the problem is?

LSD's do this at low speed. What oil are you using?

Nothing wrong with it, Aftermarket LSD's do this, if it did'nt do this before oil was changed try a different oil

Yeah I'm happy with it skipping a low speed - I had a welded diff on my last car, so am used to it.

After rebuilding it I put ep90 in to help protect the crownwheel.

The guy who rebuilt it after me has used a lighter oil that was recommended on auto data. Not sure what weight it was

It didn't clonk previously

whats the diff bushions like in good nick ,and whats the condition of the rear subframe bushions ,clunky noise in mine too its locked solid

I replaced the diff bushes, but didn't replace the subframe bushes.....

Could very well be just the lighter oil to be honest, changing the oil is the easiest and by far cheaper option to start with IMO

The guy who looked at the Nismo unit thought this, that's why I changed from ep90 to a lighter oil, but it didn't make a difference

Ah sorry i thought it only done this since changing the oil fella, my bad!

No mate I really appreciate all the help and suggestions - mechanics isn't my strong point and my wallet is pretty weak, but I try to do as much work as I can to keep costs low.

Possible it could just be a seriously tight diff after been refurbed aswell.
