I know this has been discussed a few times, but what are people's opinions on De-Cat - is the hassle for MOT time worth it in power gains and is there any data on power gains made?

Also, with police emmission checks now about - what are the possible consequences?

The consequences are your car being hauled away on a trailer, as it is not fit for road use.

You asked, and that is tne penalty !

put it this way My Escort cossie gained 20-25hp by dropping the Cat.

Don't know about the R34 GTT but i was told AFTER!!! i got my de-cat pipe that the cats on the GTS-T are not that restrictive and the down pipe was the best thing to change.

I fitted an Exhaust and a de-cat at the same time and it feels quite a bit quicker but don't know if it's down to the de-cat or the exhaust or both

Thanks, that is sort of what I was hoping to hear :)

Mine is having downpipes done this weekend so will know if these make a difference in isolation and then will take a view on the cat afterwards I think.

Thanks for your help guys..

Hiya Nick, I don't think that a down-pipe on it's own makes that much difference with a standard car (a tiny bit more torque). However when/if you tweak the boost then that's when it'll make the most difference.

As a rough guide my GTT has a Nismo panel filter, HKS Downpipes and Blitz Nur spec exhaust (still cat'ed up) and was Dyno'd at 283bhp so those "breathing" mods haven't added much BHP but, as I said earlier, I should see a bigger BHP with them done (after upping the boost) than if they were still standard i.e 360 standard - 385 modded as a rough guess?

Hiya Ian,

really looking forward to seeing your car in the flesh now, you always seem to be a couple of mods ahead of me!

Mine will now have Apexi induction, HKS Hiper muffler, Iridium plugs and after this weekend, the downpipes, turbo timer, alarm and springs. Next step looks likely to be boost and ECU but I am suprised yours changes have not netted more as there are many examples that seem to have on this forum:confused:

Mine certainly felt significantly quicker with the induction kit to replace the apexi panel filter - the noise may affect perception of course.

Keep me posted as to your progress and eagerly awaiting your next dyno. Cheers.......Nick
