Hi,

I'm converting my RB25DE to an RB25DET, so will be removing the DE engine completely to put a DET in its place.

What is there that is different parts wise, just so I've not missed anything?

I've thought of the obvious stuff, like the Turbo itself, Manifolds, Wiring Loom.
But what else would I need? Would I need a different ECU or would it run off the existing ECU? Do they use different injectors/rails? I know I will also be needing an intercooler and turbo pipework.

But is there anything I will need to buy separately?
As I'm working off a budget.

I heard you can run them from the GTS gearboxes, but the GTST boxes are slightly stronger and a tiny bit bigger?

From what ive read and heard you need to use the DET ecu since DE ecu has no settings for the turbo. Also if i remember right the injectors are smaller in DE engine.

Dont know about gearbox but for r34 i got recommended to just use the one which comes with the DET engine since the small N/A gearbox is quite weak.

Someone correct me if im wrong.

Did you buy the engine block and the turbo /parts separately or as a package?
As far as I know, there are three things that separates the DE from DET.
1. Headgasket
2. Injectors
3. Oil return

And oil squirter's in the block afaik
Yes these are not installed on the RB25DE, i dont know if the DE-block can fit the squirters bolt-on or if you have to drill and make the holes and connections yourself. And i think these squirters are very expensive to buy new from Nissan :(

I had a RB25DE+T in my car when i bought it (bought it broken) and it didnt have the squirters, and i talked to a friend who works in a engine test lab (they used to make, tune and create engines and test them for Mitsubishi etc) and he said they tested how efficient the squirters were, and without them, the engine failed much much earlier and the pistons got way hotter (and eventually failed)

Anyway, what im saying is you really want the squirters if you are going to convert the engine to a DE+T and want it to be healty in the long run. My engine failed because of heat to the pistons because it didnt have them (One piston melted), but i dont know how "good" the conversion someone had done to it was either so, maybe it wasnt Only because of the missing squirters? :eek:

I just ended up buying a used RB25DET and replacing the whole engine instead of bothering to convert the DE+T, in the end, i think it was cheaper or atleast less work and a much better base to do more with later on :)

can I ask? did everything fit straight in or did u have to change the front subframe for a det sub or are they the same? also did the na prop fit a det gearbox? im about to do this. did you have any other problems?? thankings many times

And the award for slowest reply goes to, me? :D

In my case i didnt get a regular RB25DET so i cant tell how well it fit, in theory, it should fit bolt on. If you do have the RB25DE and wants to convert to a RB25DET i assume you at some point will have both engines at your disposal, then it should be easy to compare the oilpans between them. I assume, and see no reason, why they would differ between the models, car makers are usually looking for an easy way to re-use parts where they can (its more expensive to make a new mold/part for each configuration) :)

I actually have a GTS-4 so i had some problems finding an RB25 that had the GTR oilpan stock, so i didnt have to make a adapter-frame (since the RB26 oil pan is wider, and has a completly different bolt-pattern). Turns out there was one car that ran RB25DET with ATTESA AWD, some Stagea RS4 or something like that :) So i went out and found one of those engines, and it should fit bolt on :) I havent actually fit it to the car yet, as it needs some paint and stuff (the car / engine bay), and i work slow :D

Once my engine is installed, i might just go ahead and do a project thread :p
