Exhaust sound

Back in November (it is now April) I installed an exhaust+downpipe+test pipe/cat delete. Car ran and sounded good. I then put away for winter and now that I’m taking it out the car seems to hesitate/lack of power and exhaust sounds choppy and makes the car shake a bit. Could this be because I drove it with out tuning to compensate for the cat delete? I’ve gone through and retightened all the bolts along the entire exhaust. If it helps I can post a vid of before when I installed it and now

That's a difficult one as there are so many variables, after market ecu? High lift cams? Have you tested for a boost leak, also test the MAF known for dodgy solder joints..

How many miles have you done since taking it out of storage? It may need some driving because its sat about for awhile.

At most 10. I noticed it while driving home the first night I took it back out. Sounded and drove fine but about half way home it started chopping and hesitating. Could a cat delete harm engine internals?
no the cat delete shouldn’t harm anything check for leaks to make sure your gaskets aren’t leaking on the exhaust. After that clean your mass airflow sensor and check your o2 sensor to make sure you plugged it up properly. Is your check engine light coming on? If your maf is dirty it will cause your car to run choppy. Also look around to make sure nothing is unplugged or popped off, rubber tubes or connectors to your charge pipes. Cars being as old as they are things break off and just need a simple replacement.

It is possible to check the operation of the 02 sensor, on mine the clear sheathed wire put a positive probe in and negative probe to earth. Set the volts on your meter as low as possible and it should fluctuate between 0 and 0.9V..If not it's faulty.

no check engine light. I did tuck away and tape up the sensor from the cat since I didn’t want to take apart the car to get that out/if I ever put the cat back on. Could that be a problem? I’ll check MAF. 👍
You’re saying your o2 sensor isn’t fitted into your exhaust? Yeah I would say that’s most likely your problem. Most test (replacement for cat) pipes will have a bolted slot for the o2 sensor.

Ya mine didn’t have one, it’s a tomei pipe too so I figured it was normal. Should’ve done some better research i guess. I’ll have to get a fitting welded on
What about before you do that slap your cat back on with the o2 sensor make sure you clean any gunk off it before reinstalling. To see if your problem fixes itself personally I don’t use test pipes. Also clean your maf make sure you only spray it with maf cleaner. And don’t take shady short cuts like just tucking things away you aren’t driving a Honda. 😉

Ya that’s what I was planning to do. I’ll probably leave the cat on if problem goes away. Thanks for the help. :)

Did you check your gas also? Letting cars sit and not treating the gas for storage can cause running issues
