right people about the mazda rx8

not interested in buying one at all, nice motors but personally not for me though im a fan of the rx7 but wouldnt even get one of them, few owners told me they like rebuild them every year

anyways for my own knowledge i just wanted to know something, i get told all the time that rx8 limiter is 9k though you can go past upto 10k which according to a lot of people this can pop the engine, hear this stuff, guessing thats why theyre so cheap to buy

but what i wanted to know why cant people put an actuall limter at 9k through mapping or whatever gadgets exist so redline is at 9k so they dont damage engine???

I had a 231 years ago with full mazda speed trim (pretty much what became the PZ.)
Great car - handles flawlessly well but for me I missed the turbo kick in the back.
only colour to get is velocity red.
Audio brilliant too.

I never thought they would go up to 10k revs I had the 231 and when it got to 9k revs it beeped to tell you to change gear. So I never took mine past the 9k mark. But they're mainly cheap 1. Cos any rx8 made after march 2006 is over £450 to tax every year and 2. at 60k miles the engine needs a rebuild. Luckily mine was on 26k miles when I bought it and about 29k when I sold it a year and a half later!

You lasted longer than me lol.
10 months and that included three trying to sell it.
Lol well I put mine up for sale as soon as I knew I won mine in Japan and the day before I picked the skyline up the one chap who phoned me about it came and picked it up! But no one told me that would be the only good luck I had with mine lol

My mate has one. They definitely don't go to 10k, his hits the limit at 8750 and bouncers back. The drive is really balanced as it has a near 50/50 weight split.

It has better... they say you ruin the handling by putting someone in the car to drive it lol.
Rumour has it not only is it 50 / 50 it's actually left and right balenced too on each corner making it infact 25/25/25/25

I honestly couldnt fault the handling. sounded great too when on full chat.

pulls well for an N/A car.

downfall... Drank fuel and oil.
never had to top oil up so much in my life on any car.
wasnt burning it... apparently thats just normal! lol.
the rear dorrs are a PITA!!!! you need to open the front alot to get the rears open. supermarket carparks thats not a possibility lol.

All in all i'd consider one if cheap but i imagine i'd end up fitting a different engine.

oh and hot start.... Forget it!!!
used to sit there cranking it for ages if just been for a thrash and pull up at a shop.
get back in try start it.... NOPE! lol.

Boot space was good but the hole to load it (when you open the boot lid) was excrement!

You can get a stronger starter for hot starts. The starter is a know fault and was fixed on later models. I definitely loved feel on b roads when I drove it. The most annoying things are definitely the doors! And changing the bloody oil filter! That's nearly impossible to do without smashing it to bits

I think worn rota tips make the problem worse, but I think even from new they had issues with warm starts, didn't Mazda recommend people revving them before turning them off.

Far as I was aware in the handbook it said you weren't supposed to switch off the engine if it was still cold. You had to hold the revs at 4k for ten seconds to burn off any carbon deposits and then you could switch it off. Personally I didn't have trouble starting mine got but I did read of a lot of people having problems.

The sound it made from 4k revs onwards was very nice though when you floored it! Toppin up the oil was a pain Mazda recommended checking and topping up every 2nd tankful of fuel!
Mpg was the worst I've ever known but wasn't too bothered.
They are dirt cheap to buy now! You don't tend to see many on the roads (well I didn't anyway) so that's what persuaded me to get one.

As above pretty fast for a na engine
