Ok, I did some searching and maybe I didn't look for the right keywords but I found nothing on it so here goes.

As of right now, I am saving up for a Skyline to be purchased in the states.

I think I will be going for an automatic R34 or R33 GTS-T, since they seem to be alot cheaper than their manual, or even their GTR brethren.

IS IT POSSIBLE...

To perform an RB26DETT swap and still use the stock auto transmission?

If not, are there any performance automatic transmissions that would?


My reasons for keeping the car automatic are this:

1. We drive on the RIGHT side of the road. Being that JDM cars dont have the "visual" advantage on these roads, I don't want to be fumbling around with a manual transmission, get caught up, and wreck something I can't easily replace.

2. I've driven manual cars, however, these are LEFT HAND DRIVE and I wasn't very good with them in the first place. I'd be much more comfortable being a baby and driving an automatic Skyline.

3. If I were to race the car, I wouldn't have to worry about missing/grinding gears during shifts. I currently have a 300 rear wheel horsepower mustang that has a modified automatic transmission in it to handle the power, and I like not having to dilly-dally with gears :p.

4. Ironically, where I live in florida, has quite a bit of a slope and tight parking spaces. Having an auto tranny keeps me from worrying about other people's cars.

So again, if this is a repost, I'm sorry and please direct me to the link that I missed.

If not.. any comments, suggestions, links, pictures, etc, would be greatly appreciated.

am not too sure mate but i beleive that they should match up ok will try and find out for you mate;)

awesome thanks... i really want the RB26DETT.. and it looks like im buying a '95 GTS-T in bayside blue, and If the RB26DETT swaps in ok, I can always sell my RB25DET to some poor fool with a 240 here in the states... I can't wait to own a skyline!

yes mate it will bolt straight up to it, and it will be ok with the power to, the diffs are slighly different ratio, but it wont be a problem ;).....also on the swap its a bit more involved, yr need to change the whole front half of the wiring loom, yr need to cut out the gtst loom ans re-fit a gtr loom....its a fair bit of work....:D

OOOooohhhh !!! I didn't realise you had a GTR engine sat in there Mr Bigchief, I'm guessing the drive ratio on the diff's will add more 0-60 than top speed ;) :D

please forgive me again... but.. being american im sure we've got alot of different terms for parts of the car, by loom you mean something along the lines of a wiring harnass? because if thats the case, thats not too bad. just the motor/turbos/wiring needs switched out. do i need to worry about anything else? exhaust? anything else in the engine bay need to be moved around?

also.. i'll ask this here while i got ya. GTS-T's i noticed do not have flared fenders like the GTR's. anyone know of a website that I can purchase this and possibly a JUN bonnet? and will the flared fenders have any effect on future kits I buy for the car?

yep mate wiring loom needs swapped out and as there is two turbos on the rb26 you will need both turbo elbows and front pipes mate.in the bay at the o/s/f u will need to remove/reshape the washer bottle and a couple other thinks to alllow fitment of pipework to mate the intercooler pipework up to inlet manidold buddy.:wave:

i cant believe you want an auto.

I thikn the best thing you can do is move to the uK, experience the fun of a manual skyline in our rain, and enjoy the night time speed camera dodging.


Much easier than mating the 26Dett to an auto :)

dont know about r33 auto but the r34 is great fun as its tiptronic so you can play if you want to

Alright well, figured as much. I was just gonna get a front clip of an R33 GTR and swap everything from the clip into my skyline.

and as much as i would love a manual skyline, they are more expensive here in the states.. R33 GTR's start in the $30k range, R34 at least $50k. I have managed to find a skyline R33 GTS-T thats only 16 grand.

Well thanks again.. I found a few places that sell front clips of skylines for the motor and parts. so Ive found everything i'll need to swap out the motors, and from answering my question about swapping out motors and keeping the transmission, I think ive got all i need to know about the swap. thanks again. More posts coming soon if anything arises.

I'll also keep you all up to date on when i finally can ACTUALLY call myself a skyline owner. cross your fingers for me!
