What fuel do you use in your Skyline?

Can they be run on normal 95 RON UL (or does this need an Octane booster)

It was a question that I was asked, and I didn't know.

I thought that 98 RON SUL, would be the best way to go, but was just curious...

Any ideas/thoughts?

Can engine damage result?

optimax or super and octane booster is way to go
u risk doing piston damage on unleaded running higher boost levels

Guy who asked has two Skylines, two R32 GTS'

One with an RB20DE and one with RB20DET and are both as standard as they come. no mods, boost not increased.

Any risk of damage with normal 95RON UL

Cipher,
I always put normal unleaded in my old RB20DE GTS. Never seemed to struggle without super, no pinking either. Are you still looking for a 4 door?. What did you make of the 4 door one in Derby!.

Higher the better, but -

They can live on 95 if you don't do performance enhancements. The GT-R I have spent 5 years on the Japanese chip, limited to 112mph. Apart from the work I have had to have done to correct casual maintenance & poor handling, the car shows no ill effects for 5 years of 95 RON.

That being said, I noticed my GT-S 'sounded happier' when run on premium. Personally, I would always run on 97 RON if at all possible, only using 95 to get you to a place that can sell you 97.

Currently, the GT-R's on Optimax, and various aspersions and threads on other BBS aside, I am happy with it.

My reasoning (drawn for several sources, all errata are my own):

Japanese hi grade fuel is 99 - 100 RON, but with a slightly lower calorific content. I run 98 RON Optimax as the nearest thing, and the odd 1-2 RON difference a good ECU can compensate for.

Works for me. I will let you know if my engine goes west due to fuelling issues. :D

as long as the ECU is set up for 95 ron then you will be fine.
I have heard that Abbey have recently set up a car running SS GTs, cams, all the goodies and producing 500 bhp and 450lbs torque on 95 ron.
get her on some optimax and she will fly.
get yr ecu checked and set up by a tuner and you will be fine.
