Here's a question for you......

Been speaking to a few people on the phone today who reckon (but no-one is 100% sure, including Nissan themselves) that the RB20DET in the R32 has a steel head gasket as standard.

Can anyone confirm this before I blow myself up once the turbo is rebuilt?

From what i've read on various websites and forums the standard rb20det head gasket is not metal, but every article i've read on the subject is actually quite vague, i can tell you that the standard head gasket is 1mm thick giving a standard compression ratio of 8.5 and a 1.4mm hks steel gasket is the upgrade to have giving a new comp/ratio of around 7.6 too 7.8 at best.

Hmm..

Did PM a few people I had been recommended to ask, and the answer was 1mm steel, but other sources said not so. Don't want to name names (protect the innocent etc etc) but am leaning towards the steel theory. Anyone come up with hard fast evidence?
