Well you may have seen my car and ive got tints all round,

5% on the back and 20% on the front.

Which i know is illegal i have had tints on all of my cars and never had a problem, ive also had the car 4 years and never been stopped.

I got stopped last week and the copper in a nut shell said "they are too dark, i could test them and if they are illegal then it will be a £60 fine, but off you go" so i went on my way.

My other half is borrowing the car while his is in the garage and he got stopped last night :nonono:

The copper wasnt impressed and gave him 3 point, £60 fine and 14 days to get them removed and its go to be taken to a VOSA station to be checked.

Im am gutted for him and feel guilty that he has got the points when he has been telling me for ages to take them off!

They have now finally got to come off which im not happy about but theres not alot i an do really.

Proper gutted

gutted for you mate :(

Thanks hun,

Oh just spoken to the tint place to see whats best to take them off and asked if they do a very light tint that complies with 70% for it to be leagal.....he said 70% means nothing on the window at all
Gutted another lad who sometimes pops on here and said to him if he doesnt remove the tints on the back they would take his car away...
i think it depends what moods coppers are sometimes if they just let you go or give you points and finds :(
i thought it didnt matter what you did to your rear window/rear side windows....i know they are arse holes when it comes to door windows!

have you got to remove all the tints then??
Without being harsh, it's a gamble you take, if you know they are illegal and you get pulled for them all you can do is take it on the chin. Same as plates and lights on the front of car.

Thing is it costs more labour wise to remove tints than it does to put them on.

some cars come with tinted windows as standard hmmm
* behind the B Post (ie rear passenger windows and rear screen) there are no limits
* side windows in front of the B Post (ie front passenger windows) must allow 70% of light through
* front windscreens must allow 75% of light through

Be careful whether the tint you are considering blocks 70% of light or allows through 70% of light. For front windows the regulations are about the amount of light that is allowed through. Also be aware that if you have a factory tint that blocks 10%, you will only be able to block an additional 20%.

I think a £2000 fine is also possible
just before christmas gutted for ya b3cks
ma pal got pulled yrs ago when the rules first came out and had to remove them on the spot b4 he was alowed to move away, it was the light meter they had tho at the time to test there was no getting away from it
all police are A holes. gutted for you

wardy
This whole thing about them giving folk grief stinks to high heaven.

I didn't see any big votes from the people to allow the cops the right to fine and charge people for what they do to there windows.

Big police state just stares everyone in the face but nothing gets done.

Why does VOSA or the government have the right to screw with car owners like this?!

It's nothing to do with them and doesn't cause any problems for the user or those around him!

Fcking cops man, they really are little hitlers with waaay too much power in their hands over car drivers.
I've got my back and rear-side windows tinted. Have they made that illegal now?
cops are just there to do a job, blame the arses that make the laws...gotta say though that you knew it was illegal, you got tugged and let go but still didnt take em off...personally I would have taken that as a massive hint and removed them.
not good becky,as said above the rear have no limit, you could panell the rears if you like and make it a van,its just the front s that matter
your door windows were pretty dark though becky....i could never see inside your car lol.

ive onlygot the back three done so im spot on.
Thanks hun,

sorry but thats not true
i found light smoke was within legal limits when i got an old one checked
Sound like the coppers are complete arseholes...which is nothing new.
I'd bet your fella was proper annoyed with you and the car.
Oh well, take it on the chin i suppose.
my rover had light smoke front and dark smoke rear, i got pulled and tested and fronts were illegal but i got let off and i never took them off due to it was down south i was pulled

now the copper tested his own car and the front wondows were as standard 72% vlt so cars are being made with darker windows, now the rear windows can be as dark as you like so all you need to do is remove the fronts and you will be ok.

This man talks sense.

I never said this but why not get your front windows tinted so they are well within the limit i mean a very light tint leave the backs as is because you are allowed to put limo tint on them if you want.

THEN... Take it to VOSA say test these for me copper gave my husband a fine and points and said they were illegal without testing them and called me a liar.

Once VOSA test and confirm its okay how can the police prove the windows are illegal.

Get me?
