Seems only to happen at 3000rpm no matter what gear I'm in, it gos away after 3500 rpm
you sure its not tension rods on the way out or something? can you describe the knocking? Like a "thud thud thud" up to 3500rpm or just one knock that goes away ?

ooof you weren't kiddding - that sounds pretty hefty but i have heard noisy lifters sound like that in the past - my own in fact on my last engine. I changed the oil and it was fine.

another thing to check is your timing too just to be safe

i remember having to take my own cylinder head off and infact finding i had two bent inlet valves... however i'm not saying this is the issue here.

i think something can be done with the lifters but i cant remember i'm afraid - someone like speedreeper would be able to diagnose this i'll pm him and send him the link to this thread..

Ok cool thank you, question could it be the big end? someone on fb said it could be that, but my oil and temp gage on the dash are perfect

this is a vid of Dazza's car a while back... the engine went from a small knock to this... you can hear it get steadily worse...

coupla smart alecs saying why didn't you pull over and turn it off - well actually we would have done a junction back if the road weren't closed and we were unable to get off the mway so we had to drive it to this spot.
It was actually a spun bearing that made this noise?

your video doesn't sound as bassy or as violent as this - i would hazard a guess noisy lifters tbh
