Hi all,

If any of you have seen my thread in the lounge section then you will know whats happening.

http://www.skylineowners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=133356

Theres a facebook group trying to help save Donington Park as it is n the verge of been shut down due to all the f1 stupidity.

http://www.facebook.com/groups.php#/group.php?gid=265230290785

They are asking for support on the facebook group and are organising a rally (non racing version lol) to help show how much Donington Park means to the racers and supporters from all over the country.

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=2339...818&index=1

The date for this event is 7th March and will be held at Donington Park, there has been a lot of media interest in the event and a possibility of some celebrities making an apperance so should be worth the drive.

I have fond memories of Donington Park from marshalling and watching the BTCC there so im just trying to drum up as much support as I can.

Feel free to post this anywhere and everywhere.

Thanks for reading and support.

Thanks
Andy

Quick update.

Well we are over the 5000 mark on the group now lol.

http://www.savedonington.co.uk/

Lots of interesting things happening.

Kevin Wheatcroft himself will be there at the Parade on the 7th March to answer questions in a Q&A session, also it's going to be like a show as theres club stands and a auto jumble and fair etc.

Would this be something people would like to go to if so I can send an email and book us a club stand once I know roughly how many people would like to go.

And theres no entry fee lol.

Thanks
Andy

Hi all we have had a mention on the Facebook group lol, heres the details of the event on 7th March id like us to have a stand if anyone is up for it?

Plans for the 7th March are now well under way and we are approaching the “finishing straight”.

It must be mentioned that the effort everyone is putting in, to make Donington Park acceptable (and safe) for supporters, is very considerable indeed. Simon Gilette has left the site in a very sorry state. An event of this size usually requires a year to set up. However, this is being set up in only a few weeks, as well as make-shift repairs to the facilities to accommodate all the attractions.

However, we can finally release more details and timings for 7th March:

Everybody should use the main entrance to enter the event. Please be patient and you will be guided to your allocated parking section by the security staff and volunteer marshals. Entry to Donington Park will be free.

Supporters are invited to arrive from 10am. This is also the time the Newark-on-Tour Autojumble (courtesy of Penny Farthing Fairs www.penny-farthing-fairs.co.uk) will open in the exhibition hall (entry only £5).

Clubs and feature displays are advised to arrive closer to 8am if possible. Hopefully, with the promised turn out, this should turn into quite a display in itself – so make sure you’ve been busy with the polish!

Clubs will be allocated their specific areas, in which they may do as they wish. You are welcome to erect a gazebo or stand and display your banners etc. If similar vehicles turn up, we are hoping you’ll welcome them to park with you – you might even boost your membership!

Kevin Wheatcroft himself is going to invite questions and interviews on the day. This is likely to attract plenty of TV, radio and press interest as he is hoping he will be able to make an announcement regarding the new leaseholders.

There is a strong possibility of a “casino”, so you can try your luck on the roulette or pontoon table for a prize at the end of the day.

Many people have been asking about the extent of the damage to the track. Well, supporters will be invited to view it for themselves and get some idea of the magnitude of the task involved, to restore racing to the circuit.

By a massive coincidence (or is it fate?), the Save Donington event will be the 40th anniversary (to the very week) that the magnificient museum first opened on 1st March 1970. To celebrate this, Mr Wheatcroft has pledged to offer a discounted entrance fee. I’m sure we all look forward to visiting ‘The World’s Largest Collection of Grand Prix Cars” in many more years to come.

Nico Ferrari has been invited to display his ‘Bubble and Kick’ racing Porsche, complete with the roof signed by supporters of Donington Park at the recent Autosport International show at the Birmingham NEC.

Children have not been forgotten and will be provided with various rides and entertainment, including computer racing simulations. Hopefully everybody will be able to witness a track rescue demonstration too.

Lastly, but by no means least, supporters have an opportunity to sign the book of remembrance for the man who gave us so many fine memories of Donington Park over that last 40 years: Tom Wheatcroft.

The event’s closing time will be 4pm.

As mentioned earlier, this is all being set up at extremely short notice, in recognition of all the support that has been demonstrated by everybody who has joined this group. It is also a remarkable achievement, considering the disrepair of the exhibition hall and many of the other facilities.

So, if you intend to attend on the day, there are a couple of things you can do to help.

Firstly, we wish to collect plenty of “evidence” of the fan base. It would be great if every person attending could bring at least one item of memorabilia. This could be old programmes (or photocopies of the cover, for example), children’s drawings of their experiences of watching racing, old ticket stubs or posters (or photocopies, again), letters or notes of support, anything that can be compiled into a permanent wall display. So, put your thinking cap on and see what you can bring with you on the day.

If you own a classic or prestige vehicle and wish to park with similar vehicles, it would be very helpful if you contacted the email address [email protected] with the make and model in the subject title.

Also, if you know several members of your club are attending, we need to start finalising how many from your group will be there, so please email [email protected] with the name of your club in the subject title, and details of your numbers.

Many marshals have been in touch, offering their help on the day. If you are a marshal and wish to help too, please contact me at the same address, so I can pass your details on to the security staff. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Some of the wonderful “grid girls” who have promoted previous events at the circuit have also pledged to add some glamour to the day. Another reason to polish your motor and bring your camera! If you have been involved with promotional work as well and wish to join them, please contact the same address, [email protected] where I will pass your details on.

I have been asked many times about merchandise. Car stickers are looking likely, as are “official” T-shirts. The stickers will probably be £1 each and the T-shirts (image below) will be £10. All comments welcome. If there is enough interest, there will be a limited number available on the day, with a further possibility of placing an order for later delivery, should the demand be sufficient.

Despite the owners stressing they have no wish to monetize the goodwill shown and the effort everyone is going to, there has been overwhelming requests to make a donation to the repair of the facilities. Therefore, the following page has been set up for people who have further enquiries.

This is now an entirely mutual event. We are showing our support, and the staff at Donington Park are showing their appreciation. This is all due to the affection you have all expressed towards the racing circuit. I’m sure the 7th March will have a significant part to play in its future.

Well done all, and do make sure you keep spreading the word.

Thanks
Andy
