HID's Fade over time?

541 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Multics
I am sure the factory fitted HID's on my R34 are giving off nowhere near the ammount of light they used to generate a few years ago. Do these units fade with time or do they eventually fail like normal bulbs. I assume the orriginal Nissan replacement would cost an arm and a leg, can anybody suggest any alternatives which would swap in AND pass the MOT.

Thanks

There are traders on here who sell HIDs that are direct swap that will pass MOT. I know KR is one of them for sure.
hid bulbs will come with an expected hour life if they are decent bulbs
Most HID bulbs colourshift and lose intensity over the years.
Best to remove the HID bulb and check what connector base it has, should be a D2S. You can get new D2S bulbs like the Philips 85122 or 85122+ which doesn't colourshift for $90 a pair. They're used by most OEMs and they're 4300k giving you the strongest output.

I noticed that you quoted in $ instead of expected £ . Was that deliberate?

Good info, thanks
Yes, cos I'm not sure of UK prices. I ordered all my HID gear from here that's why:
