Had a lot of fun as I was after a policy that would guarantee like for like replacement of modifications in the event of any incident, even a total loss fault one:

http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/upload/86298-years-quest-decent-car-insurance.html

Given the number of companies that ran away, please, please check your insurance fine print. The fact they accept the risk of insuring your modified car DOES NOT mean they will pay for ANY of the mods if needed. If your policy states 'insured value is market value' or similar, then any and all modifications will be subject to negotiation.

Also, they may well fight for you if the incident was not your fault, but what happens if you tango your car into a ditch/tree with no other vehicles around?

Hate to be a doomsayer, but the thought of anyone loosing their performance car and then discovering that the insurance company has weasled out of paying anything except the market value is horrendous.

Nope

My renewal was £1206, with £350 excess, market value policy.

The KM quote is £1450 with £600 excess, but all listed mods guaranteed on a like for like replacement.

So in essence: 250 for peace of mind.

I'd pay it.

Several days and a monster phone bill later....

MCE Insurance: Had a significant hunt about, came back with a quote from Marketsure, who agreed my values given the spec list, and were happy to offer insurance at a premium of £897. With a £2500 excess.

So, step right up Keith Michaels, who provide modified car insurance where other companies fear to tread.

Thanks to MCE who stood by their word that they always quoted when they recieved an enquiry.

As for this lot:

Swinton Specialist
Japanese Import Insurance
Footman James
Adrian Flux
A-Plan
Academy Insurance
Insurance Factory
Heritage
Insurance 4U
HWG
Direct Line
Warwick Davies
Egger Lawson
Privilege
Lifesure
High Performance (the modified car dept of Alan & Alan)
Peart Insurance
Greenlight
Express Insurance

Nice advertising, folks. Shame about the contents.

funnily enough I had a very long conversation with A-Plan about like for like cover... they said they do offer this. I agree with you Jae that it is a very blurry subject and they didn't convince me over the phone that they were 100% confident in their statement.

Would like to get to the bottom of this to benefit others looking for peace of mind insurance cover..

Ive got my insurance with A-PLAN at the moment.I had an accident last year which wrote off my Gtst(not my fault) and i got paid out for the value i stated on the insurance policy,a bloke (insurance loss assecor)from Norwich Union who A-Plan insured me through phoned me up and offered me pennies for it,i didnt accept because i had just payed an extra £200 to cover mods,he phoned back after consulting A-Plan and agreed to pay me out in full as long as i could prove costs of mods, which i did.I would say be honest with ya mods, keep all reciepts and insure it for what its worth if the worst is to happen, making sure that the insurers will pay out for whats stated.Credit where credit due:)

Not sure in the uk, but its relatively easy here, but in the case of a claim if your found not to be trading in the area stated you could be in trouble.
