Jacking up the car at home...

Is this part of the chassis rail a good place to jack the car up?
Ar per many many R33's my jacking points are a no go area, and I can just about angle my 1.5T trolly jack between the wheel arch enough to jack it up from here.

Whatcha think?:)

you can jack it up on that bit but ffs dont use that jack head get a bit of wood that covers the width at least of that part as the strength is on the corners not the middle, the longer the better as well, or like the rest say use the diff,

as above, pull the head off your jack a use some timber so it sticks out either side. If the head dont come off then drive the car onto some bricks to give clearence. Then place the timber on the jack head and jack up. It will make some creaking noise while the jack head sinks into the timber. The timber you want should be about 6"x6" x2"

Nissan specifically says not to jack up Skylines by those chassis rails.

Use the jacking points under the sills. If you have "Type M" sideskirts then they clearly indicate where to jack, as two square cutouts in the skirt plastic's underside frame the jacking points nicely...

For use with a garage jack like the one in the picture, you can buy special pads made of semi-soft polyurethane that protect the sill and return to their original shape when you let the jack back down.

These are the ones:

i jack my car up on the chassis rails all the time and also use the chassis rails when i put it on the 2 poster as my sills collapsed with the weight of the car when i put the jacks there.

regardless of what peaple say the chassis rails are part of the strongest structure on a vehicle and so can withstand the pressure.
however thats my opinion in all the years of being a mechanic and always using chassis rails/legs to lift a car :)

i use the rear mount for the suspension. the bolt faces downand fits squarley inthe middle of the jacks cup, plus i figure this bits degisned to take a fari beating from road useage and stress, as the car sits on it all the time.

the chasis rails in a skyline are paper thin and weak as piss, they will deform if you jack the car there,it just looks unsightly and i wont do it to my car,the sills are also weak as piss, great to own a skyline hey!they will fold over if you use a normal garage jack with a steel top on it,so if you get a piece of timber about 1.5 " thick and cut a 1/2 inch slot for the sill in it and use this on the jack it will save the purty looks of your cars underbelly, you can jack at the chasis rails if you have a very low jack and a piece of wood to spread the load 10 " or so

The polyurethane pads I mentioned protect the sills so they're not deformed.

I fitted 4 of them to my 2-post lift and never looked back... they conform to any car's shape. Great stuff.

i will have a look for them on the bay!

Also i dont find it safe to lift a car from the cills on a 2 poster, if ever the car was to slip or the arm move while trying to get a tight bolt off underneath the car would fall.

When coming off the chassis rails, if it was to slip the car would only drop 1" or so onto the arms or the floor pan. Yes it would damage the car but it wouldn't damage the guy working underneath the car.

My 2-post has lockable arms. And the poly pads lock the sills in pretty tight so there's no way it'd be coming down..... unlike a norwegian bmw owner who used a pair of unstable wood blocks and watched his car drop from 5-6 ft :nonono:
