OK... Question time... (Again).

I am giving serious thought to chopping the belt that drives the aircon pump. What I want to know is..... (apart from the ac not working) will it do any harm?

Can it be easily removed without cutting?

And, most importantly, will I see any benefit in terms of performance?

ANyone done it?

remove the belt without the ac working and you wont notice too much of a difference. Anything to lessen the load on the engine on any of the belts is a good thing.

at the pod a lot of pro's take off the alternator and start the car via remotely.

The Ac pump is probably on a bracket which can be loosened and slid to then remove the belt easily I would have thought.

Bet its really sunny and chuffing humid the day after you do it.
I have seen a dyno sheet with the car run with full beam and the alternator drags quite a few horses off the power.
Take the AC pump right off and save quite a lot of kilo's too

Buster... Been thinking about dumping the whole lot (incl the AC radiator). Heard the whole kit weighs 20 Kilos... Now, thats about a quarter of me, so its quite a saving (half a tank of fuel, if you prefer almost).

Never had a car with air con before, and I've only switched it on about 3 times anyways so figure I won't miss it...

And as far as passenger comfort goes... F**k em!

Ah so the Buster philosophy is alive with you as well. Once the aircon head unit is out you have space for a load of gauges or the like. You can get light weight racing alternators and gel batterys as well. Demon tweeks race catalogue is a piece of motoring porn

Heh heh!

Well, I was gonna dump all the under bonnet crap, but not touch the dash unit. I presume if I dump the A/C system under the bonnet then I will still have heater/blower functionality and control?

My assumption is that they are independant systems. Got enough gauges etc in the dash these days to keep me happy!

In the long run i rekon its worth removing but you won't really notice any differrence i think they work it out as every 10 kgs you remove from the car is equal to adding 1 bhp.

One thing i did notice is that when you rev the car there's a bit more engine movement on the mounts.
