Went up to watford from southampton wednesday night and the car was popping, stuttering and seemed to have no power between 3k and 4k rpm when holding her at a steady speed.

I spoke to BigChief and he mentioned plugs as well as a possible bad batch of fuel, as i had just filled up before. He advised me to drop to 2nd and take it to higher revs to blow any crap through the injectors etc. This didn't work, but as i was using the original fuel i had to top up with fresh v-power.

Topped up last night from a different shell station and after a warming up period went on the motorway for a one junction drive. This is where i heard what seemed like metal on metal contact, which seemed in time with the revs, and also when changing gear. Went home and let her sit there cooling down, but i couldn't hear the metal slap anymore.

Heard it twice this morning on the way to work :(

I've done a search and reckon my coil packs need changing or refurbing and this should sort the stuttering, popping and lack of power, but i have no idea on the weird metal slapping noise :(

Could anyone point me in the right direction, or offer any advice please?

I've had no end of problems with this bleedin car, oh yes, i've also had to repair the exhaust center box with halfrauds exhaust stuff as that developed a bloody big hole the day after Rising Sun sorted my turbos and dodgy ebc :(

Help guys and gals

It was (apparently) done when the car was serviced last month, before i picked her up.

I'm checking with the garage now.

Bring it down this afternoon if you want Danny and we can take a look at that and see if we can weld the exhaust up for you. I`m around after 2.30.

as Hi5 said, check your fueling. if pump, injectors, fuel filter are not ok you could be running lean and therefore getting knock. could explain the "metal noise". if you´re running with low oil level your engine can be loud too. check it and get back to us. or if you go to RSP anyway then let richard have a look. i´m sure he´ll find it...

Well, i didn't make it to Rising Sun :(

Got 3 junctions up the M3 and it sounded like a bag of spanners rattling around. Got a mate to bring some oil up, just in case, and after coming off the motorway at 30mph and pulling into a layby, i let her cool before checking the oil. It seemed low, so i thought the oil would sort it.

Nope, sounds like an old oil burner with loose tappets and a metalic gerbil livving in there. Spoke to Richard and let him listen and he said to turn the engine off, it doesn't sound good :shakehead:

He comes to pick the car up and i give him another listen. Not good at all, it sounds like a bearing or the bottom end i think he said

So, i've been a proud owner of an R33 GTR for a month and 3 days and i've driven her for 7 out of those.

Its had a pair of new standard turbos, followed by uprated ones, when the Blitz EBC blew the standards, a new Greddy Profec B, a hole in the center box, some dodgy coil packs and now something a tad more serious go wrong with her.

Its at Rising Sun now, and i know she is in good hands, and i know that i shouldn't say this but it just makes Skyline ownership a questionable passtime so far, so i'm off for a beer and a few JD's, and then to wait to hear from Richard and Rising Sun :)

All i can say so far is many thanks to Rising Sun, they've been a great help, cheers guys

You know what?

I've just read the best arguments ever for buying specialist cars from specialist dealers..in the UK! may cost a shilling more but how much safer would that be long term?

Aitch i must disagree with the argument about buying specialist cars
from specialist importers/garages.
i have bought a couple of lovely r33s off of e-bay cheaply and have
incured no exspense or mechanical problems whatsoever.
the problems start when you end up buying someone elses bad news.
or the badly modded car that is a bomb waiting to go off..
i have seen a lot of cars from so called specialists that were just
well presented heaps with a big price tag and a dodgy warranty
thrown in as a sweetener..
you pay your money and you take your chances.
