Hi there I got a 95 R33 gtst about six months ago, It is awsome to drive but from time to time my auto box keeps shift down almost causing the rev's to almost redline, I have followed a few theads in here, most are pointing towards the problem being the spedo convertor chip, some sensor or the gearbox oil needing changed.
I have replaced the spedo chip and i have tried wiring it up the origional way without the chip, but still the same problem, over the next few days im going to replace the gearbox oil and ill let you know how i get on (Im not convinced this will help but worth a try). This morning i ran the gearbox dagnostic check which indicated that all sensors were O.K. Please feel free to share any experiences like this you may have and more importantly how you solved them.

advice needed

I went out today and bought some ATF (ACDelco dexron 3), I noticed some folk in here recomend dextron 3, is it the same stuff were talking about or have i just bought some p*sh that sounds the same, also I bought Lucas high performance engine oil synthetic 5W-40. I have been reading threads on the apropriate lubs for days now and my head is pickled, from what i have read the above seems to be suitable. Please somebody tell me if it isnt.

I know from reading all the threads allready posted to do with oil, you regulars must be getting p*ss*d off, but with all those thread's comes a lot confussion.

i posted on here the other week with the same problem.
Took car to garage and posted.
I was told same thing to change box oil and box filter.So going to get some oil from oilman and nipping to pay for gearbox filter this week at local Nissan dealer.
Was told had to pay at Nissan first and that the gearbox filter is on 4/5 week back order.
When i manage to get part number for the gearbox filter,i will post on here as i was already given the wrong part from Nissan and had to wait 3 days till they found the right part.

hi i have the same problem and found out what is it.TPS,the upper plug.will try fix as well cos shifting at 5000rpm

Does your's allways go at 5000 rpm, mines has good days and bad day's. if the gearbox oil change does'nt help ill check the TPS. How did you check yours.

Auto Transmission Diagnostics

Enter the auto transmission diagnostics mode

Have the car at normal temperature in Park with the overdrive on
Start the engine * the power light will go out after 2 seconds
Turn the ignition off
Move the selector to Drive (you may have to use the push button release)
Overdrive off Wait 2 seconds, and turn the ignition on
Wait 2 seconds and move the selector to 2
Overdrive on
Move the selector to 1
Overdrive Off
Press the accelerator fully and release
Read the auto transmission diagnostics codes.
All codes are flashed with the Power Light on the dashboard (R32) and on the auto mode selection button on the R33's.

The sequence starts with one long flash.

If everything is OK, this will be followed by ten short flashes. Errors are indicated by a long flash in the sequence of short flashes.

1st flash longer Revolution sensor shorted or disconnected
2nd flash longer Speed sensor shorted or disconnected
3rd flash longer Throttle sensor shorted or disconnected
4th flash longer Shift solenoid A shorted or disconnected
5th flash longer Shift solenoid B shorted or disconnected
6th flash longer Overrun clutch solenoid shorted or disconnected
7th flash longer Lockup solenoid shorted or disconnected
8th flash longer Fluid temperature sensor is disconnected or the control unit power source is damaged
9th flash longer Engine revolution sensor shorted or disconnected
10th flash longer Line pressure solenoid shorted or disconnected
All flashes the same with no long start flash Battery voltage low, has been recently disconnected or control unit has just been reconnected

Thanks for that ogon, but I allready ran the auto trns diagnostics and got 10 short flashes. Thanks alot for your help anyway, it's appreciated,

Does it still have the problem if you turn off the Overdrive?

Hi Aitch, I gave it a blast today on the way home from work without overdrive on, it seemed to be reving very high without being near top speed. is if it is not making it into the last gear.

I drove home again today with overdrive off, when i do about a ton the revs are up at nearly 6000 and it wont go to the next gear until i engage overdrive. After this it is as if overdrive is coming on and of intermitantly. the overdrive light in the dash doesnt fliker or anything though.

Is it a 4 or 5 speed box including OD?

There are ways to tell from the VIN plate, but it's not necessary, the info you just posted tells me it's 4 speed including OD.

That would explain the problem your having with RPM v speed with OD off, you maxed it out in 3rd gear, is it a 2.0L?

u have 4 speed box including OD?I got same one.Mine is 95' as well.Your max. speed with over drive on (u will see next to the clock) will be 120mph then will cut but when u off it will go more cos 4-th gear will come,do not forget take the foot off the acceleretion pedal when u press over drive.

I just got a call from my mechanic, he replaced the gearbox oil and managed to get about 3L more out than he could put in. Ill get car back tomorrow and see if it has cured the problem. Ill keep yous posted

got the car back tonight and the gearbox is still hunting between 3rd gear and overdrive. I think I will have to try checking the T.P.S. anyone got an idiots guide how to do this, Ive allready ran the gearbox diagnostics which indicated that all sensors were O.K. but I dont know what else to try.
