It's interesting what difference petrol makes to mpg.

I've got a standard GTS-T engine, and I've compared optimax to sainsburys super and seen some differences. However, they haven't been consistent and one seems to out-perform the other on different occasions.

I've even seen massive differences between two tanks full of the same petrol from the same pump on different days. My driving is pretty consistent, so could this be down to the weather or to different quality of the petrol, etc.?

I have noticed that the way I drive does make a huge difference though. I can get almost 300miles from a tank if I drive like an old woman, but this can drop to 220 if I drive it properly and also get stuck in bad traffic.

Haven't tried the 99 RON stuff yet, but will be over Christmas. Be interesting to see how the car takes it.

Its a hell of a lot cheaper and i've found i can just as much out of it as i can optimax. (Optimax is about £1.00 here, where as Tesco pumps it out fr about £0.89......
No Tesco 99 near me, so I stick with the sainsburys 97 for 87p. Optimax is far more expensive, but I'd use it if it made a difference (but it doesn't seem to with mine).

Likewise, i try not to confuse the ECU (i think i know what i'm talking about!!!??) by sticking to the same stuff. I'm at around 240 miles at present on the 99 Tesco which seems to be average for my motor whichever petrol!

I use the Tesco 99 since they have it right near me, and the Shell I used to go to closed down! The only other shell reasonably near by are theiving b******** who charge £1.09 on a good day for optimax. I have found that it does not make any difference to runnning of the car, as for mpg I do alot of town driving and drive like a nutter anyway so makes no difference ;)

Tesco 99 ron will NOT have the high standard of additives that shell use in there optimax fuel......

If you ran 2 cars over a year one with Shell optimax and one on Tesco 99 ron,
the shell one would have a cleaner fuelrail and injectors, cleaner ports with much less carbon deposits on the vaules and you would have over the year got more mpg for your money.

I never use any supermarket fuels not even for my daliy runaround...!!!
