Anyone know what Skylines cost brand new when they first went on sale in japan? (allowing for currency conversion obvioulsy).

I've got a 98 R34 GTT, just wondered how much it would have cost if i'd bought it brand new.. What other cars were they competing with?

This website has the original Japenese Yen prices:

http://www.motortraders.net/imports/select.asp?make=Nissan&model=Skyline

You'll initially be 'disappointed' at how 'cheap' they were - but then take into account how much money was worth ten years ago - and then near double it to get a UK price! (Going on the GTR's that were officially sold in the UK being roughly double their Japenese equivalent prices)

Just checked My 96 Spec2 out of interest - Using Exchange rate in '96 an R33GTSt Spec2 would have been ~£18k in Japan, At the Same time a R33 GTR would have been ~£32k - think the UK R33GTR were around £50k as well?

So not quite double - about 1.6x - So R33 GTSt would have been ~£30k in the UK.

I'll check a 98 GTT for you....

Hmm, exchange rate changed a lot 96 - 98,99 !

A 98 R34GTT Would have been ~£13.5k at the time. Using 99 exchange rate it would have been ~£15.5k

A 99 R34GTR was ~£27k - so as it was £54k in UK (Thanks Stusy) then it was twice the Japan price (that's where I'm remebering double from! - Some of that is import, VAT etc - but I think they still made a lot!!)

So 98R34GTT would have been ~£31k

Wow, only £15k? Thats ridiculous!

£50k for a GTR sounds about right tho, guess its the equivalent to an M5 in terms of power and performance

Don't forget about inflation, I used this
http://www.westegg.com/inflation/
The exchange rate was 111.2 yen to a dollar in 1993
multiply the price by 1.39 to figure inflation.
you can now covert it to gbp and you have the price without vat/transport/dealer mark up. generally double the price has been my experience seeing that most new cars cost more in gbp in England than they do in usd in the US

my 1993 gtst type m
2898000 yen in 1993
=26,061 in 1993 USD
*1.39=36,225 in 2006 USD (a bit more than a 350Z track model)

so between 28k and 36k in 2007 GBP, not too Shabby:drivin:

well my r32 gtst would have cost me in the region of £16000 back in 1992.
best bargain of the last century in my opinion ( if i got the conversion right)

ok that way i get 17,050.35 GBP then add 17.5 % vat equals a rough guesstimate of

£19,948.92 which sounds more like it!
