First off i know very little about mechanics

On starting her up (1996 gtst had her 10 months now no problems) and turning out into the road at walking pace i felt a bump though the steering wheel as if i had hit a curb or something, I hadn't however, then I lost all power steering.

Could someone tell me what could have happened?

Power steering belt snapped? Check the engine bay for a pulley with no belt on it...

Nothing too bad then? and more importantly will i do it any damage by driving to the local garage 200m away?

If it's that, then it's safe to drive, check first though, it may have shred the belt.

U'll be fine driving it if the belt is broken ,the stearing will feel very heavy though !

Oh good, nearly crapped my self as i had just pissed all my spare cash on a stag week. I thought "uh oh that feels expensive" however you where right. just a belt gone thanks for the swift replies guys normaly im just a lurker on the forums.
