so i just bought a 1990 gts not even a week ago... yesterday i was driving down the highway and i noticed that after about 4000 rpm the clutch would slip out a bit until i eased off the gas and let it catch up... on my way to work today i stopped at a light and when i went to drive my engine just rev'd up as if my clutch pedal was pressed down although i was in gear and didnt have my foot on the pedal whatsoever i think that the pressure plate is the problem the clutch pedal still has lots of resistance but it just wont engage the tranny to the engine any advice on what to check for?

by the sounds of it as you noticed is slipping at higher revs at that point its at a high load and once it starts slipping there its pretty worn, there is no point changing just the plate as it will wear out very quick,we always change the whole thing.

If you still have good pedal pressure that suggests the pressure plate isn't an immediately obvious problem, since that resistance you feel on the pedal is the reaction force of the pressure plate finger springs. Your friction plate is more than likely the culprit, and it sounds as though you don't have many miles left in it at all, so I'd advise you to change it sharpish before you're left stranded somewhere with no drive.

i bought the car off a bunch of crooks tho that is for sure www.jdmtunersinc.com when i first bought the car after a quick test drive i quickly fell in love so i had to buy it but after the sales were finalized i drove out and made it not even 500 meters and the clutch went on it so i barely made it back and they said they would fix it and have it ready the next day but obviously they just tuned the clutch a bit tighter because the thing went not even a week later and now they refuse to have anything do with it saying it was my fault when they never even fixed it right in the first place

there are loads of so-called clutch specialists to be found on the web , but beware as some will sell you inferior quality products.
have a look on the traders section on here and they will be able to point you in the right direction, and at the right price.
hope you get sorted and back on the road soon.

Before you buy, I recommend that you take a brief glimpse into your crystal ball. Do you plan to increase the power at all in the near(ish) future? If so, it would be worth buying something up to the task of taking whatever that power may be NOW, rather than waiting three months and having to replace/upgrade it again :)
