R32 20det boost problem

2932 Views 12 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  jlsays6
hi im having boost problems with the new motor i put in my r32

the motor is a full standard 20det out of a laurel and runs good on all 6 cyl with no load but when it has load on it at about 3-4000 rpm it misses and sputters and occasianally backfires , i have cheaked the intercooler and pipeing and that has no leaks and doesnt seem to be affecting it i also set the spark plug gaps and put a 20det fuel pump in today and still have the same problem. im running the standard 20det computer out of the laurel

what could the problem be any feedback would be greatly appreciated as i dont know why it keeps doing it

thanks

Possible a boost leak. Check all those pipes as they can hide in 90Deg bends.
Possibly faulty afm if there's no boostleak
ive taken all the intercooler pipeing off, repositioned out bonnet and still havent found any leaks, replaced coil packs and ignitor pack but still same thing and have tried a different AFM but none of this has worked

It's an ignition problem. Check your ignition amp, swap out the coils one by one, check the actuator on the turbo (vac lines on it). Start with those simple things then we go from there.

Try this guy: http://www.skylineowners.com/forum/member.php?u=23737

Know's his R32's and he's local to you. ;)
i swapped my coils and igniton amp but still no difference, whats the best way to cheak the vac lines?
i regapped them going to repalce them with new ones today, also replaced fuel filter and still same thing
any more ideas??? tryed everything so far sadi nothing has worked

Lets start with the basics.... what plugs are you using? NGK .... ?
What did you regap them to?
You say the motor is standard... are there ANY mods at all? POD, exhaust, fmic etc
If you used the correct plugs, you shouldn't have needed to regap them at all...

What did you replace the coil packs with? New or 2nd hand stock items? If 2nd hand standard Nissan, are you 100% sure they are in working condition?
they were brand new coil packs and gapped to 0.8mm
there is a pod filter, other than that it is stock
i noticed when i take the o2 sensor off it makes no difference to anything i thoguth this was a vital sensor

I want to know exactly what type of spark plug you've put in there. What is the product code on the plug you fitted?
As you only have a POD I assume you're only running stock boost (no boost control of any sort) then the factory spec plug is what you need... a 0.8mm gap isn't necessary but it won't hurt anything.
NGK BCPR5ES-11 is the plug you should be running.... alternatively BCPR5ES would work too (pre-gapped to 0.8mm).
just standard ngk plugs didnt realy make much of a diffrence between old plugs and new plugs
