A friend mechanic converted r32 1992 GTS to turbo. I haven't driven the car but another mechanic tells me that turbo is leaking oil.

Is there any cheaper option other than rebuilding turbo? I don't understand how a newly fitted turbo kit can leak when I haven't even driven it.

It is just a basic turbo kit fitted. I can take a picture and post here.

Can someone please help? Car is based in Auckland.

Thank you

It's not suprising that the turbo would leak, its pretty common now for the oil seals in the turbo to leak[2 have blown on me already].
If its a GTS[rb20de engine] probably be from a stock rb20det engine.

Best/easy option is to replace it with another one.

I've already brought one for $70 on a Auckland Skyline Parts/Sales Facebook page.

Just make sure there's hardly or no play in the turbo bearings and ask if it blows alot of white smoke at WOT. [Oil seal is leaking and oil being burnt and blown out through exhaust]

Or if you want more boost and power, might as well replace it with a rb25det stock turbo, it'll bolt directly on the rb20de exhaust manifold and use the same oil/water return/feed lines.
