Unless you planning on keeping the car for atleast the next 4 years and you do about 10000 miles a year in it then its not worth doing as the cost of the conversion over shadows the savings.... unless you have a mate who will do it for free....

I've got a Jeep with it on and I'm considering doing it to another car, I cover over 52000 miles a year at the moment so it should pay for itself quite quickly ;)

LPG Conversions Ltd

Thank you for your enquiry,

Over the last Ten years, LPG Conversions Ltd, one off the larges lpg installers are proud to have converted over Three thousand vehicles to LPG. We are currently converting around four hundred vehicles a year between our branches, ranging from the smallest 3 cylinder Smart Car to Range Rover v8 supercharged engines. We also have extensive knowledge in converting Limousines & American RV Motor homes to LPG, offering multiple tank options.

LPG Conversions Ltd is part of the CLS Dual Fuel Ltd network of installers that was established in November 2000 specializing in LPG conversions. Over the last 8 years we have converted over 15,000 vehicles, saving our customers thousands of pounds on the cost of fuel to drive their cars, but that is not all, LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is the most wide-spread "alternative" fuel for vehicles in the UK - and for good reason: Producing 20% less CO2 than petrol, 120 times less fine particulates than diesel and costing roughly half the price - it's a clear winner for your pocket and for the environment. Plus, there are over 1,400 filling stations retailing LPG (also known as Autogas) in the UK and that number is growing every day.

We have looked at and fitted a variety of sequential LPG kits over the years including the BRC system. Overall we felt that the BRC system gave us the best reliability, economy and performance that we had ever worked with. For this reason along with many others we have chosen to exclusively fit BRC instead of the cheaper alternatives as we do not believe you should compromise quality and reliability.

We have two branches within our company, LPG Conversions Ltd, located in Heanor, Derbyshire and CLS Dual Fuel Ltd, located in Meadowfield, County Durham

(one of the only LPGA approved installers in the North & south of England).

Options available, if required:

Flash lube £75 + Vat

Electronic Flash Lube £200 + Vat

Colour Coded Filler £30 + Vat

Auxiliary Tank £350 + Vat

Flash lube:

When vehicles run on LPG, they lose the lubrication qualities that petrol has; Flash lube replaces this by pulling the lube through the vehicles inlet manifold, lubricating the valves and valve seats for extra protection.

The Electronic Flash lube system:

The Electronic Flash lube system injects a special lubricant directly onto the cylinder head via the gas injector. The system is set up in such a way that an LED warning light will come on to tell you that a top up of lubricant is required, if you continue to ignore this warning, the electronic flash lube system will become empty, and will not let you drive any further on LPG, cutting down any risk of damage to your valves.

Auxiliary tank:

Most Auxiliary Petrol Tanks concern 4 x 4 vehicles where the owner does not wish to have the LPG tank fitted inside the vehicle. The original petrol tank therefore has to be removed in order to fit the LPG tank beneath the vehicle, and a specially designed smaller auxiliary petrol tank is then fitted alongside the LPG tank. Our Auxiliary Petrol Tanks are 'Heavy-Duty' units, and all are especially designed to use existing mountings wherever possible, in order to minimise installation time. All tanks are double welded (inside and out) to ensure that we offer you the highest quality product available. Mild Steel tanks are made from 3mm thick 'CR4' quality steel, and are either powder coated or painted with a rust resistant black plastic polymer finish. Each tank is pressure tested to 10 p.s.i (0.65bar) to ensure that the highest possible standards are met.

Examples of the savings that can be made by running your car on LPG:

Vauxhall Vectra 1.8VVT with an annual mileage of 12,750miles per year averaging 30mpg.

Petrol costing 107.9p per litre: £2085

LPG costing 48.9p per litre: £1085

Savings per annum: £1000

The calculation assumes a 15% reduction in MPG when using LPG.

Range Rover 4.4 Vogue with an annual mileage of 12,750miles per year averaging 17mpg.

Petrol costing 107.9p per litre: £3680

LPG costing 48.9p per litre: £1915

Savings per annum: £1765

The calculation assumes a 15% reduction in MPG when using LPG.

I've thought about this too for my Skyline and I have a little experience with LPG. I bought a 3 year old Zafira with the factory fit LPG - it cost about a grand more than an ordinary petrol one. It ran for a year before the LPG packed up. The problem then was that the Vauxhall mechanics didn't know enough about LPG and the LPG specialists wouldn't touch the Vauxhall factory fit system. I paid £600+ to Vauxhall trying to get it going then realised it was good money after bad so resigned myself to running on petrol having lost all the savings from the year it was working.

My feeling is that when you have to spend money to save money you take a gamble - it could work out great but no guarantees. That Zafira was the most expensive car I ever owned overall (including depreciation). On the other hand, the 10 year old 200sx I was running at about the same time cost me very little in bills and hardly depreciated. It was much much cheaper than the Zafira overall for similar mileage. Yet I never bought the 200 for economy. Maybe its just the luck of the draw?

In fairness though, it might work out perfect. And if you get a reputable local fitter who can also maintain the LPG system then you won't have the same troubles I did with Vauxhall.

Also on the plus side, if you wanna take the chance anyway then a Skyline smile + LPG smile must be awesome. It's a great feeling knowing how little it costs to fill up. I used to see a grey/silver LPG R33 around Bristol - I offered to buy it once and the owner said "no way - not ever".
