8248 Views 12 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Lucid
Hey im realy keen to get a new skyline, I used to have a R33 rb20e and sold that a while ago and have always regretted it. Now iv found an R32 rb20de and im realy keen to get it and drop a new engine in it eventualy but thatl be down the track when iv got a bit more money to spend on it. But it has a blow head gasket. Is it a big job to put a new one in? and is it very difficult? Thanx a lot for your help guys :)

Hi, usually people take it to mechanics and i have been quoted 700-900.

They take the head off, machine it etc as it will most likely be warped, make sure there are no cracks in the block and then replace the gasket and put it all back together, there might be coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant or both so you have to flush both systems too, many hours of labour mainly. Im sure if you were to try it yourself it wouldnt be hard but the thing is you may need to machine the head.

Someone who's actaully done the job may be able to help you on the DIY approach.

Hope it helps.
Hey thanx that helps. Im still pretty keen cos its so cheap but might think about just taking out the engine and saving up for a new one. I realy want to just get and old rb30 and put a twin cam 25 head on it and leave it at that, non-turbo 30 should be nice and cheap

Welcome to the club. Do you have any pics of your car? :)
Nope I just looked for pics of my old 33 (which was mean as for a rb20e) and there all gone :( im so gutted. I reformatted my pc the other day and there gone. It was a series II and low as **** with the mean front lip on it.
Im in welly, what do you guys think? should I go new a new engine or just fix up the one in there, its only a 20de but could +t on it. The engine does look nice cond.

It'll be too much hassle for you to "T" an RB20 DE, unless funds are limitless, It'd be better if you got some monies together and get an RB20 DET. ;)

Said exactly what I was gonna say! :) You can get cheap 20dets on trademe

can even get a full front cut for under 3g! Wish I had seen it earlier :(
I reckon for the price and hassle you spend rebuilding the motor with the blown headgasket, you're better off saving up and buying and RB20DET, better performance and reliability as well as the peace of mind that your head isnt warped or cracked etc.
for the price get a rb25det. 180KW standard mate. im in welly to mate.
Cool if im going down that road I was thinking about going for an rb30. Rb30de should go nice in a 32 without needing to turb it?? I would always do that later but without the turbo itd be pretty reliable and nice maby?
