Hi guys,

I'm thinking of buying a Skyline in the next few months, but am interested to know what it genarally costs to run one of these for a year in the UK?

Rough Insurance costs (modded & standard), maintenance any other unexpected costs. Rough idea of MPG?

Also any tips of what to look for when buying one of these?

A little more detail required here mate

insurance costs £500 < infinte dependent on mods, points location etc

mpg ~ 25mpg depending on how much of a penis you are

running costs: next to nothing other than fuel

tips, beware of highly specced new imports with handgranade engines

Depends what model you`re after really & the state of tune. Big BHP cars will obviously be more expensive day to day & if anything goes wrong.
Fuel shouldn`t really come into it. If you`re worried by MPG get a Metro.
Also whether or not you`re prepared to do basic service work yourself. I do basic service stuff to mine as do a lot of others. It helps keep the costs down
I think i spent less (a lot) less than £1000 for general consumables. Tyres, oil, filters, plugs etc etc.
What makes them expensive is the tuning bug. Once you`ve started you`ll find it hard to stop.
Insurance wise mine costs £800 a year fully comp with 3 points & no NCD

Location: London

I've been quoted £2500 by Tesco insurance for a standard imported R34 fitted with a tracker.

24 yr old, 1 year no claims, no convictions or claims. Any specialist insurers that will be much cheaper?

I've heard that maintenace is very expensive of these cars, very short serviced intervals, expensive parts etc.

How much would expect to spend on your car in year?

What model R34?
Go to the insurance section of the site & find a thread called "whats your best quote" i think thats what its called. Theres loads of info on insurance in there. I use Liverpool Victoria as do many others.

maintenance isnt too bad, service intervals are short but most only require plugs and oil so that wont frighten anyone, parts on the other hand ore not cheap that is true.

£2500 for a standard 34 seems like quite a lot, i suppose it depends ont he insured value i suppose

I would not expect to pay for anything ohter than plugs and oil over a year, in threee years its had one clutch and radiator which became blocked, both were around £300 no big deal

scrimping in this repsect is dumb, if you blow the engine up expect a bill for between £6,000 - 10,000 depending on what damage you have done

Its the R34 i'm looking at, seems the best one for around 10K. Any comments?

Those figures sound promising and if the main servicing is just oil and plugs thats no big deal. What is the service interval, i've been told it's 3K, is that right?

The figures on a standard spec model seem quick enough, so i dont intend to mod.

Last few grey areas you guys may be to clear up for me are:

How easily are these cars clocked? Or most running with genuine mileages?

How nickable are they as standard?

Any recommended dealers? Any particular faults to look for?

Tyres seem to be my main expense. Therefore, I think I am a penis. Having tried many makes I have found the SP9000 the best all rounder for grip, wet and dry and life.
MPG is a complete variable 10 MPG on a track day 25MPG off boost on a motorway trip maybe a fraction more with aircon off.
As Eddie said there is so much available for em in the tuning and tweaking dept that costs, but you just cant stop yourself.
