I currently own a Subaru Impreza. Despite still loving the car and getting a buzz each time I drive it, I am seriously thinking of a change.

Don't want to go the Evo route.

Looking into getting an R33 skyline, can anybody give me an idea of what to look out for, other than the basic stuff (it will be AA/RAC checked before final puchase, but need to know wheather or not to it is worth the fee). Anything that is a weakness or that is desirable to have?

Hoping to get a 96-97ish car, seen one or two advertised, just need a little insight.

Sorry for all the questions, but if you don't ask you don't learn, and where better to ask?

Thanks BB

P.S. Thanks to Martin for sorting my registration problem out.

Basically with a gtr you get 1 more turbo,100cc extra,4 wheel drive, wider arches & more respect.
But having said that my old single turbo, rear wheel drive gtst is the absolute nuts. I love it. Its says skyline on the back & thats good enough for me.

That is one of the contributing factors in my decision. No offence intended, but scoobs are beginning to fall into the hands of the more leary modifier, next step up from a Nova.

I see you are from Norfolk Bob... Dont suppose you went to the Scoobycity paintball meet that was on yesterday (Sun 25 May) at Sprowston? There were some nice Scoobies there, even though they all looked like polished show queens...!! :)

BTW I was there with work, purely coincidental!! :D

If you want to see a GTS you are welcome to come for a blast in mine :D (I live in Watton....)

Ditto over here.
Everywhere you look you will see (or hear) a Subaru. Yes they will leave my GTS for dead on the twistyness but the Skyline is on a higher plane IMO, and I don't think i'm alone judging by how many heads it turns.

I love the wolf in sheeps clothing thing, the fact that it's not all big wings, scoops and air dams. It looks sensible, elegant yet purposeful, oh and goes like fcuk.

Also has the right number of doors.

Thats the reason I love mine too, it doesnt shout about what it can do, but it looks different enough for people to say "what was that?" as you completely annihalate them on the road...!! :D:D:D:D

You're not kidding - I had some kid in a Yaris try to take me three times at the lights the other day - he seemed really suprised and upset that he got completely stuffed every time.

Try this

For info on the R33 GT-R

http://www.prospec-ms.co.uk/models/bcnr33.html

As for choice, depends on what you want from your ride. I had an R33 GT-S for three years before I got the GT-R. Better response than the GT-R (higher compression, smaller single turbo) but tail happy handling if you really clog it. An excellent all round vehicle, and utterly ideal if you want RWD fun.

The GT-R is more of a hooligan, but does not really realise it's potential until modified to stage one (induction, downpipes, exhaust, ECU, plugs, steel internal turbos). I would recommend going for a GT-R if you can, and there are several fine examples for sale on here and on the GT-R register

Happy hunting.

Many thanks m8, will take you up on the offer, just have to get work sorted out for the next week or so, will e-mail or post to sort something out, I live near Gt. Yarmouth, so not to far. I do belong to scoobycity, although I was not at the paintball, work again.

JAE - thanks for the link and comments, I want the GTR and hoping to get one that is, at least partially, modded, not compleatly done, got to have something to spend the cash and time on;)

Thanks everyone who has posted, it has been a great help. Nice place to visit as well (the board I mean), made to feel welcome.:D
