starting engine advice

513 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  sparkso
just finished my winter build, which consisted of top mount turbo, 550cc injectors, oil cooler, 1.6mm steel headgasket etc

however, i went to start it tonight to set the timing with the timing light but she keeps flooding herself :( is it possible to start the car with 550cc injectors even though she was previously mapped for the standard ones? and does anyone have any advise on how to get her running so i can set the timing and then get her away to get another remap

has no one started their cars to set the timing after changing the injectors to bigger ones?
never done it myself but are you using a PFC & handcommander ?

sure you can change injector size so it will start

you are getting spark arnt you ?
im running a map2 ecu, and yea getting spark ok

when it flooded the first time i removed the injector plug and it tried to fire up but dies as soon as it burns the petrol off, then once the injector loom is plugged in again she just floods :(
Surely you would need to tell the ecu what injectors you now have, esp if it has been previously been mapped for std's.

Like mark said with the power fc you just adjust the injector settings to suit, so maybe with the map2 you need to do the same but with a laptop maybe???

Im sure the map2ecu comes with a cable and software to plug into it and map yourself.

Turn the injectors right down with it and see if the car will work then, otherwise maybe an injector is stuck open?
injector latency will be well out. Unless you've got the software your not going to get the car running with bigger injectors
Can't you just re-fit the original ones until it's on the dyno for the re-map? No point running them until that point; at best it'll run badly.
after i put my 750cc injectors, the car would ideal but soon as i give it some throttle, it would flood... you need to get it mapped
cheers guys;

was talking to the tuner today and he said it wont start unless i turn the injectors down on the map, but as its set to the timing marks itl not be a bit job to fine tune the timing when hes mapping it next thurs, so she can sit in the garage until i trailor it over then

thanks for the replys :worshippy:
