Have you got it in the country already?

The work is not that difficult to do yourself but I used SVA UK based in Southampton who got mine through SVA, MOT and Registration with no problems at all and took away all the hassle.

For the SVA conversion, test, MOT, Registration, DVLA fees, 6 months road tax and number plates I paid £759.40 inc VAT and it took about 3-4 weeks start to finish and it took all the hassle away.

Wow thats quite a lot, I don't mind the hassle of things like that as I have a lot of spar time on my hand, how much was the MOT and SVA?

I assume I can do tax, number plates and registration my self?

Breakdown was:
SVA conversion and test - £450 +VAT
MOT £35
Registration admin fee - £50 + VAT
DVLA admin fee £25
6 months road tax £90.75
Number plates £18 + VAT

Doesn't look too bad done that way does it? Bear in mind this is delimited, speedo convertor, fog light, change bulbs etc.

Hope this helps...

They also remove a load of hassle - you do not list a location but if you are close by, when it is landed, go down and check the car out for the obvious things like tyres etc for MOT and then you can control the cost of these as well. It also breaks up the long and tedious wait (along with this site of course).

The only work that they did that I have changed since is the front plate and the Champiro tyre:( that was replaced on the front and was extra to this.

I'm in Berskhire

Well didn't know I could be in for a wait, I presume all this can be pre booked though and I can do all the document stuff so I don't have any wait?

depends on whether your car is modified at all Skunk .. this can cause delays.

I also thought all japanese tyres fail the SVA test as they don't have a speed rating on the tyre wall ? So you either replace the tyres or, as some places do, put on a temporary set of wheels n'tyres.

Mine got through SVA on its Japanese tyres as they had the "Jap squiggle" on them which is the E marking equivalent apparently.

Tyres must have listed on the sidewall speed rating , load rating and also either the E symbol (E1 or E2 etc in a small circle on side wall) or alternatively the Japanese approval symbol which looks a bit like a cracked egg.

Also the tyres must meet the speed rating appropriate to the car eg H rated is upto 130 MPH etc.

If your Tyres have the (JIS) japanese type approval marked in a circle on the tyre, or (E1 ) , (E2 ) or ( DOT ) they will be OK for ESVA Testing, but only if they are not ZR rated Tyres.
Unfortunately most Japanese Import Skylines have ZR rated tyres, mostly Bridgestone GRID II, GRID or Potenza tyres. If the tyres are Bridgestone you have no alternative but to change them for SVA or you will fail. Yokohama Tyres are even worse for markings as most do not even have the (JIS) mark at all.
We used to be able to get them through with an approval letter from Bridgestone but this has been stopped and these ZR tyres are a NO NO.
So even if the tyres are brand new you will have to take them off for the test.
If the tyres are not ZR rated but have the (JIS ) symbol you should be OK.

We also do all preparation work for ESVA for Skylines at good rates as we specialise in them and get them through when others fail, even the modified ones, so if you need any further help, just PM me.

Best Regards

Thanks for all the advice, I posted a similar post on gtr.co.uk but the response here has been amazing, the tyre info will prove invaluable

Nice site and cars :)

The best I've been quoted for SVA work and test + MOT is £550 inc vat including the borrowing of some wheels with the correct tyres, sound good?

Sounds good and is cheaper than mine was - as long as they will stand behind their work and you are comfortable with them as a company I would go for it.

Worth discussing which fog light conversions etc with them up front as otherwise you only end up replacing them afterwards which adds to the cost.

Hope it all goes well for you mate and welcome again, the site was invaluable for me through this process too.

Yes, I managed to get the proper Nissan replacement cover for the reversing light on the R34 and really happy that I took the time to do it as I think some can look terrible.
