Ok so when I got the car the tach was broken, so I tried to do the solder fix and it didn't work. A friend of mine offered to trade me for an N/A gauge cluster, so I did and now everything works.
One problem, I noticed it will rev into the 8k plus range. The previous owners history of the car is unreliable, and the car is mildly modded. But the governor is still operational (thanks autobahn)

My quest is, is there any major differences with gauge clusters when swapped from a different car?
I have seen this within the e30 world (at 7k on my s52 the gauge is at 15k or something ridiculous)

I know when people chip or tune alot of cars there is a common rev limit that they use (24v BMWs are save for 7200 rpm). Is the rb25 above 8k rpm?

Also any advice to keeping this car healthy would be appreciated.

On BMW is usually the problem with 4-cyl and 6-cyl engines/tachs. A 4-cyl tach will show higher revs on a 6-cyl engine than actual.
