The following site shows Torque v BHP graphs for lots of different Audi's.

What you might also notice is that not very many of the graphs cross at the magical 5252 rpm.

Is that not the golden rule for BHP v Torque graphs when the formula to equate them both is

horsepower = rpm x torque / 5252
torque = 5252 x horsepower / rpm

honestly, you want to know why is because all engines have variances when they are being built. They are mass produced, sharp tools = precise engineering and good power etc.

When Cosworth used to make engines for the Rally for ford, they used to have first dibs on the first 50 produced on a batch of 500 before tools were changed, hence getting the good quality engineered engines.

Doubtful you will see many engines produce the exact same results, this is not an ideal world :)

Nice viewing though.

er not sure I got an answer there?!?!

How can a BHP v Torque graph cross at anything other than 5252?

There are graphs on that site showing ft-lb torque crossing bhp at 4600.

I just wondered if I had misinterpereted this collection of graphs?

Isn't the BHP shown on Dyno graphs just a calculation onTorque using the above formula???

because 5252 is in an ideal world. All engines have different characteristics.

So what your saying is they have most likely measured both the BHP and the Torque using separate instruments, to arrive at the results shown. Rather than measuring one and applying the formula to arrive at the other?
