Hi, guys!

To cut a long story short - I Am considering buying an R32 GTR or GTS when I'm 21 (don't laugh)!

That's assuming I'd get insurance? I've been quoted in the region of 1500-2000 quid on both t/t and n/a Supras before but I'd rather have a Skyline... Not only that but good t/t Supras are pretty hard to track down and they're bloody expensive!

I was just wondering if there are any young skyline drivers on here, and if so how much you pay for insurance? Does anybody think I'd stand a chance with 3 years NCB?

Cheers!

R32GTR on here is in his early 20`s i think and he`s got erm an R23GTR. Funny that. Dont know how much he pays though. Get yourself in the Insurance deals part of the site & find a thread called "whats been your best quote" loads of info in there.

Good choice on car by the way.

haha - Thanks!

I've looked at allsorts starting with a Skyline GTR R32 to a Corrado VR6 through to a Honda ITR (which I loved but as they say torque is cheap, and the ITR don't have any!), an MR2, a 200SX and a Supra t/t... And now Skylines (which is what I was hoping for but didn't think I'd get insured on)!

So I've gone full circle!

I'm guessing the R33 cost so much to insure owing to it being an import - The Supra n/a (the grey import) is actually more expensive to insure than the Uk Supra t/t (of which there are very few). Hopefully that's the case anyway or I'm buggered!

You`ll get insured mate if you shop around & go to specialists. Did you find that thread yet or shall we put a link up to it?

Ok I've rung just about EVERY insurance company in the last month and NO ONE will cover me on it EXCEPT Tesco who I am currently insured with. I'm 20 coming up 21 on Jan 18th and a policy with Tesco starting on Jan 18th fully comp with 0 NCD would cost me about £6366 or something stupid like that. Obviously TPFT will be cheaper. Just based on what you said above, a warning incase you didn't realise, the R32 are ALL imports where as only SOME of the R33 are imports. I THINK Keith Michaels could have got me insurance TPFT but not Fully comp.

You've been lied to. It doesn't allow you to drive other cars until you're 25. You've spoken to an idiot advisor. Not only did I used to work for Tesco first in sales and then in customer services but my mother has worked in sales, accounts, customer services and now claims for them for the last 6 years and my girlfriend works in claims now. You cannot drive other cars until you are 25 and you WILL require a tracker. The quote sounds about right but PLEASE make sure you take note of my advice above or you'll end up in trouble. Was that TPFT with Keith Michaels?

That sounds pretty reasonable.

I'd be willing to pay £2k at a push, but £1500 or less is what I'd be hoping to get. It just shows how much quotes can vary... It's a bit silly really.

Yeh it was tpft with Keith Michaels. Im insured with them at the moment. When i got the quote from Tesco i made a point of saying that i thought u had to be over 25 to drive other cars as thats what the guy at Keith Michaels said but the guy assured me i would be fine. Also he didnt say anything about a tracker, thought would only be on a GTR?

Thanks for the advice, ill make sure i check it out properly.

Tis ok mate. I spent six months in their sales department making sure I was telling people the right information then a year in customer services sorting out the problems that dodgy sales advisors had caused. My mum and girlfriend also sort out problems caused by these advisors on a daily basis in claims when a 23 year old for example rings up to claim TPO on his dads car because he was told he could drive it or when someone with a Skyline or any other import for that matter rings up to claim for theft and they didn't have a tracker. Even if it's a MICRA, if it's an import it needs a tracker with Tesco. Also from the last update I got from one of my contacts in Customer Services they no longer accept Tracker retrieve. They only accept Tracker Horizon or Tracker Monitor. You can use other systems than tracker but in my experience Tracker are the best to get. Most reliable, best value for money and most recognised systems with insurance companies etc.
