My car could do with a proper clean up and underseal, since a bit of surface rot is just starting to appear in places. What's good to use, and who's good at cleaning it all up and sealing it all? As close to north Yorkshire as possible please!

I used Dinitrol in aerosols but can be bought for using a compressor

You can get different types for under body & wheel arches

It can be painted but you must get the correct application because it's a wax finish which im my opinion is superb !

Many up market manufacturers use it

I'll post up some pickies if you require a looksie ?

Use por15. Expensive but nothing is better

Another vote for dinitrol :) I got a full kit which would easily do a skyline and it was only €200 ish

all that was really needed to be done was a wire brush and cover up everything that you don't want to be shultz as it gets everywhere lol.

Right, I've been looking into it and that dinitrol stuff sounds like the best bet. I can get the right sized kit for 110 quid too. Turns out a mate of mine has done this kind of stuff several times before, so is willing to help do it for nothing, as well as using his ramps, etc.

Thing is, he's never seen under a skyline before, so are there any areas you really have to concentrate on which are normally prone on these cars? My strut tops are okay, but are there any other box sections or cavities which need special attention?

I'm not the best at prep and paint kind of stuff, so it probably wouldn't be right if I do it myself! How much did that stuff cost you out of interest?
+1 for POR 15 and doing it yourself . After getting let down by so called mates and company's I've done lots of reading and dug out my old books and done all the work on the car myself. Much better self satisfaction feeling :) :cheers: :)


But I don't think you can go far wrong with por 15 as long as ya read the directions .P

Worst bit was not having a lift , just a few sets of axel stands so make sure ya like laying on ya back .P And stripping the old rust / paint / underseal off and then degreasing it all and having it run down your arm and drip of ya elbow lol

I didn't use there degreaser , just whatever I had kicking around at the time , I waited a month or so then gave it a quick soft ish key and slapped on a coat of underseal just cause the finish of por15 was to shinny for me ,esp as its under the car lol
Needs another coat of underseal imo but ill get round to it.

Just in front of the rear wheels was the worse part on mine , and as the rear arch's meet the boot floor , but that is probably my fault as when its raining , I'm driving and sliding ;)

I've not done it all yet as its still on the road , and really need to drop the lump / box to get to it all , I just do a bit hear and there , Started when I installed a alarm as had it in bits to hide the wires running all over the place. Then as I was replaced the brake pads all round , I through why not as the wheel was off so made a start on it.

I've been asking a few of my mates in the trade and been told by those who've used both that dinitrol is better to use than por15, and will last 5 years or more if done properly. I can get the right size kit for about 100 quid.

And I won't be doing it by myself on my drive since as I say I'm no good at this kind of stuff. I only have one pair of small axlestands, don't want to get more of it on the drive than on the car, and don't have anything to grind back to metal. My friend has done underbody treatments several times before, has all the gear needed and also has a proper ramp. He won't be charging me for it either. He just wanted to know if there are any potential problem areas where we'd need to spend a bit more time on on these cars.

I was under mine at the weekend mate with the subframe off - not that I;m saying you need to do that - but there are some areas above the sub frame that run up the front and sides of the fuel tank that are pretty hard to get to and were totally underseal free so if its on a ramp try to get some up the sides there.

Also across the top of the rear of the subframe tied to the front of the bulkhead there are some brake pipes - if you can get up there then they'll be happy and it'll probably stay rust free.

Thanks mate, we'll keep an eye out and do what we can! Since he has a ramp there's nothing stopping us from dropping the subframe if needed.

Any more areas? Box sections or other problem cavities?

Hi Stuart,

Sorry for digging up this old post, but it is something that what I am planning on doing.
Could you please tell us how did your underbody treatment went?

Did you use Dinitrol and what is the current state of your cars underbody?
Also, did you use the Brushable seam sealer or the spray paint once the rust was taken off?
