as above im trying to wire in my boost controller and have connected the ignition wire (red and black) , earth (black) but with the power wire (red) connected the unit powers up even when the ignition is off....
what have i done wrong as i want the unit to power off when key is removed as otherwise my battery will drain.

Sounds like you have connected the ignition live to a permanent live. Have you checked them with a multimeter?

to be honest i cant find my multimeter but i just went with info of here that states the ignition switching wire is red and black on the ignition barrel....

you need a swith live mate you can wire it in to the fuse box using a spade connecter where a fuse would go if i remember it is the left hand side of a fuse is the switch live side but don't forget to use an in line fuse

is there no other way i can do it without cutting and joining wires?there must be somewhere i can plug in?
